I don't see him ever coaching again....gets just as much money at ESPN, can talk football whenever he wants....and most important he's not going to get fired as easy!!

Oh I can see him coaching again, just not in college. One job that will be open is the Indy job.

Makes I think 6 million a year to do what he does at ESPN.

At what point does he become irrelevant as a candidate? He's been gone a long time and at some point owners will say it's just been too long to brong him back.

Take a look around the NFL - is there anything going on in the National (Fantasy) Football League that would imply that there are more than 2 or 3 owners that have even a basic clue as to what they are doing? Gruden would have multiple teams fighting over him if he wanted to get back in.

On the day they put him in the ground Day after. Pretty sure there's an owner or two who'd send someone to the funeral to try to talk him back onto the sideline...

"Zombie Gruden is still in play for Oakland" I just don't see it. The guy was ok but he didn't build a dynasty anywhere. His run with Raiders was ok. In Tampa he missed the playoffs more than he made them and never won a playoff game in the six years that weren't the super bowl year. He's a good coach and I like to hear him talk football but I don't think people are going to wait forever.

I agree, He is a far cry from on of the best. I compare him to a Rex Ryan type. Defiantly not one of the all time greats, but very charismatic coach that everyone loves to be around and hear talk....kinda like Herman.

If nothing else, the last year should show you that NOTHING about how the NFL operates is remotely rational.

i could see it. but would he take a paycut to do it? and would USC pay the type of money he normally makes?
but then again, Lane Kiffin is still employed so i guess anything is possible in football...

Lane Kiffin might become a head coach again very soon. I could see him going to Miami or South Carolina. Maybe even Texas when they eventually can Charlie Strong.
As for USC, my money would be on Chip Kelly if I had to place a bet.
Gruden is a good coach but he's really a hot commodity only because of his celebrity and charisma on TV. I doubt he'll ever coach again with the money that he gets to be on TV. He's be a fool to give up a gig where he's paid like a king and never called out on his BS for the grind of rebuilding a major program or pro team.
Not sure how this has anything to do with the purpose of this board, though.
