For all of the guys out there who coach but aren't teachers, especially the HC's, what are some of the ways you go about integrating yourself into the school in addition to the football? I am talking about ways to make sure you are known to all potential players, open to helping teachers, whatever the situation.

I'm lucky enough to have some free time during the day during the week so I go by and hang out with some of the PE classes to see the kids. I coach in the small town I grew up in so I knew some of the teachers already before I took the job so they were the first ones I'd contact. I'd just go hang out around the front desk/office during class change time and when I'd see somebody I know just shake a hand and tell 'em anything I can do to help let me know. Also go to other sports' games through the year. And not just basketball/baseball, everybody goes to those, but you can turn some heads showing up at a soccer game or wrestling match.

I've got the luxury to be able to set my own hours for work, so I always try and go to the school at least a day or two. If there are in school functions, like a pep rally or we had class Olympics a month ago, I go to those. I make it a point to always try and associate with teachers and students not within the program. It always benefits you to have as many allies and friends as you can get.
Showing up to random events is a really good way to get you seen, because most of your guys will say something to you.
And something I've noticed that has been beneficial, is helping out other groups when they need something, even if it isn't something that gets you noticed. Early in the year, our band was using the game field for a competition and I helped them paint it. Because I know how much that sucks. Maybe 4 or 5 people were there who saw me. But it bought a lot of credit with their director. So when we needed their practice field after ours was flooded, he was more than okay with us using it.
If you aren't a teacher, it's all about being involved with what goes on at the school, in either public or private settings. Doing anything for anybody helps your street cred. I know that's broad, but it's true.

I am typically at most of the boys sports through out the year, as well as a lot of the girls sports. I am planning on doing a monthly lunch with players, bring pizza or something to a certain lunch period, hit another the next time.
I have all of that covered, and by the way I am not a HC, just an assistant.
