We want to send out mass mailings to business asking for donations to the program. Has anyone had success with this? How much of a donation did you ask for from big business such as banks, car dealers, utility company (ie gas, electric and water), and do you have a sample letter that you can share with me? Thanks

Personally I think face to face meetings are best- just sending out a letter is very impersonal and just seems like "begging". I'd seriously reconsider mass mailings.

I agree with ajreaper - besides, it is a lot easier to throw out a letter than it is to say no in person.

We do quite well with Varsity Gold and we have approached various local businesses for sponsorship for jerseys, etc. Our coaching staff & families went to a restaurant after the game for the past few years. One of our coaches kept somewhat of a running tally on what we spent there (which was quite a bit). I wrote up a proposal to keep going there for our post-game meals and establish a partnership with them to hold different functions there in exchange for a cash donation to the program plus sponsorship of some jerseys. They were all over it and we're making a few bucks for the program, simply by doing really what we were doing before. It's a matter of being a little creative.
