My Weaknesses- and how I plan to improve upon them
• I believe I know the best way to do a lot of things. – keeping an open mind and exploring how others do things is a good idea. Always search for a better way.
• I am just learning how to use computer scouting equipment- I plan to become a master at it!
• I am just learning how to do video editing- keep practicing and utilize those with more experience
• I have a ton of pride- keep the ego in check and realize I can do so much more.
• I commit so much time to the program that I often let myself go physically – keep in mind the importance of being a role model and leading by example. Maintaining good health is important for coaching for years to come. Make exercise and nutrition a priority.
• I am stubborn when it comes to play calling and philosophy- active listening to my staff and breaking down game film together rather than alone.
• I am consumed with the idea of perfection- settle for excellence
• I have a disdain for bullies and am awfully tough on them- Find the trigger for the bullying and remove it. Don’t over react.
• Perhaps I am too passionate about winning- always remember it’s just a game and typically 100% of all games involve someone losing.
• I expect an awful lot from folks; I expect them to work as hard as I do.- Define assistant coaches roles and expectations for the year. Coaching contracts.
• At times it is difficult to get my attention – When someone talks to me I will stop what I am doing and make eye contact and practice active listening
• Winning can become too important- Focus on academics first, and then Performance over winning.
• At times I have difficulty relinquishing control- develop trust with my assistants and delegate to give ownership!
• I am not a great follower- I have to be led. If I feel a philosophical difference creating an issue I will address it appropriately. I need expectations spelled out clearly.
• I am not very good with names – practice repeating the persons name as I am introduced.
• I am new to fund raising – apply my business experiences to raising money for the program.
