I just finished my least favorite job of the week and wondered if you guys have a part of the job that you really hate. I'm talking about jobs that are directly related to football. Everybody hates stuff like laundry and equipment inventory.
I'm a DC and the job that bores me is doing scout cards. I don't mean drawing them. What kills me is putting them in plastic sheet protectors and then in the notebook. Mind-numbing tedium. It only takes a few minutes but seems longer. Do you have a job that you hate?

Hudl breakdown data is my least favorite thing to do. Input time is brutal. It's useful once it's done though.

I hate watching film, especially our own. First, I was there. If we won, there's another challenge next week to get ready for. If we lost, watching it again just makes me more angry-depressed.
Sunday meetings are a close second.
Drawing cards is a close third and I didn't even really draw cards. I sectioned off a manila folder and drew plays on there.
And frankly the longer I coached the less and less I enjoyed the games.

pregame walk throughs, I despised those and those that seemed to think they were necessary!!
Stupid is all I can say.
I have no problem with a meeting but to walk through CHIT that we had done all week and then some numb nuts even wants to change CHIT 2 hours before the FREAKING GAME!! it still pi$$es me off!

Not directly related to football but my least favorite thing is rolling up the string I use to paints the lines on the field. Football related its probably having to deal with kids who screw up in class-not big stuff-the dumb crap, and checking up on the kids grades.

I actually don't mind scout cards. My least favorite job is self scouting & film review.
Just makes me mad every time I watch my own film.

I hate having to run the scout team. We are not able to 2 platoon here at my school. I am the OC, so when we practice defense, myself and another coach run scout team. That is a very FRUSTRATING job.
If you have never had to run the scout team, I think you should thank the guys that do. It is way harder and more frustrating than I could have ever imagined.

Yeah even worse when you have a 280# ex center running Scout QB. Those were fun times!

I actually play scout team QB. Not because I can throw the ball very well or anything, but its so much easier than trying to teach someone else the plays. I at least know where the ball is supposed to go, and the general steps of the QB.

You can show them the card and tell the guy what to do and he still might phok it up. Fortunately (for me) I don't have to do it anymore.

I know jasper it just didn't look very good. I had to do it for a while when I was younger or I would have KILLED the kid trying to play QB. They can't just look at a card and execute anything close to the real thing. It really is frustrating unless you get a good group of scout players. Then a starter goes down with a practice booboo and now the whole period is wrecked. I miss it some but not a lot!

ive ALWAYS run scout team QB. its just easier for me to do it - and i get to look at my defense as a player and see the holes.

Something we do that has helped TREMENDOUSLY. While we are in individual defense on Tuesdays. Our other coach who helps me run scout team....he takes the scout team guys and goes over their plays on air. That way we get more defensive reps with our varsity guys, and the scout team at least has a general idea as to what they are going to be doing for the week.
Then when we get into actual team and using the scout team. We use 2-3 groups of skilled guys. While we are running our play, he is explaining the play to the next group of skilled guys. I just go back and look at the card and know whats going on.
This has allowed us to get twice the amount of reps in during this specific period.

"The grind" in general. Scout cards, watching our film, watching their film, Hudl data input, meeting for 6 hours on a Sunday ... I know that in the end it's all worth it because it makes our practices effective. But, the best part of practice is coaching up the boys. Anything not having to do with that is a drag.

I still hate equipment hand out and really hate collection. I've eliminated the boring stuff (stretching, pre-game stuff, straight sprints for conditioning) so things are much more streamlined. After 34 years film evaluation is pretty boring also, though. Defensive guy for me needs to do more of that now since I'm O. Honestly, I don't do a lot of it anymore. Mostly just to evaluate personnel in case someone earned a position or more time.

Picture day. I'd rather slide down a razor blade buck nekkid into a pool of rubbing alcohol. Everybody wants to be Chevy Chase and say something funny. Every body can't understand hands in front, right over left. Half the team freaks out to climb up on the riser. One coach didn't read the email to wear the dark colored polo bc the team is in white.
Can I just send you a picture of last year's close up and have the camera guy photoshop me into the picture?

I'm coaching JV after coaching varsity for the last 4 years and I'm loving it. Have an 11 month old so I love the lighter time commitment and being able to see the family in season, plus I just don't have to think as hard. Simple adjustment here or there, and the offense is rolling.

The best is when you show them the diagrams on scout and the O-line wants to know if they run block or pass block. I hate bringing this up but even if you've played Madden you should have a general idea of what the drawn lines mean.
