This happened a couple weeks ago and I'm still not over it.
It's 6:55. We're about to run through the banner. Sandstorm by Darude is deafening on the speakers. Student section is celebrating blackout night and they're jumping around waving their white towels. Facing our arch rivals who've gone 4-0 against us the past years. This is our best team in our short history of football, and the other team is starting 80% sophomores.
All of the sudden, the AD looks around in the press box, starts to freak out, realizing there are no damn officials!!
We end up having to stop everything, and announce that we have to delay the game until a game 30 minutes away ends, so we can use their officiating crew! It was supposed to start around 9:30, but of course, that game ended at 10:00! The officials are on their way, and they get lost coming to our field. So they literally parked their cars, and sprinted onto our field at 10:45.
While all of this happened, we were told by our own AD to stay in our small gym, and REALLY small locker rooms. Well, he lets the other team run all around our hometown, and ordered them some pizza and let them watch movies in our auditorium! Let me add, that our AD let the opposing coach decide if they wanted to play that night, or play on Saturday morning. Our HC had little say in this, because the AD felt sympathy for the away rival team.
Anyways we kicked off, and it was a great game. The other coaches coached a good game, and their players played hard. So we go into TRIPLE OVERTIME. In the top half of the triple overtime, our kicker kicked a school record 35 yard field goal to win the game. With the way our defense was playing, most thought we had won the game. Then, at 2:20 in the morning, they score on some
bull$hit slow screen to their fastest player.
I know it's wrong to make excuses, but c'mon. These circumstances evened the playing field so much and it hurts so much. Also, these circumstances had kids who just played a 3 hour 25 minute game drive home at 2:30 at night. That's a safety hazard for both teams, and God bless that nobody got in an accident that night.
