To me, this is WAY bigger than football. If it were us, they are suspended indefinitely until the investigation by authorities is completed and judgement is handed out. Full-cooperation on our part.
I think like some of you- they may have been told to do this. If it was a coach- he's the fall guy. If they did this on their own...I think they treat it like assault

Honestly I don't think you can keep the kids. I would want to. Really would. No excuse for what they did, but when boys have the adrenaline pumping and a person of authority instructs them to do something like that I wouldn't give them total blame. But with this being national news these kids won't play again.
If the coach wants to he could keep them on the team, I would run them for the time they are suspended all practice (if they aren't suspended for the season) and I would make them do laundry, help out with everything from mopping the floors to doing all the assistant coaches dirty jobs. Then they'd have to earn their spot back in practice

And as a matter of fact if I was the HC and this happened when I was in charge I would resign immediately. If you have coaches on your staff who would do that, you failed. I get it kids lose their cool sometimes, it's a tough game sometimes you get pi$$ed off and blow it, but to blindside a ref like that is unexcuasbale period point blank. See ya. They couldn't pull the Nuremberg defense with me.

Considering a coach directed them to do it, I would look at the type of people I am hiring as coaches and fix that quickly. I would feel like I failed those two players by placing them in the guidance of a thug.

If a coach instructed them to do, prosecute him and the students to fullest extent of the law.

DB coach told them to do it (admitted to the principal and HC that he did), so now the question becomes: If your the HC what do you do with that assistant coach?

The kids still should know better. The assistant is possibly taking the heat for kids. Either way he is done and should be prosecuted.

If the hc hasn't fired him already then he should be gone...and if the hc won't fire him, and the admin. Won't fire the hc, they should be gone.

My question as well when I heard the report of the asst. coach resigning...how in the world did he have time to resign? I would have been fired immediately.

I think they need to be held accountable to the extent that they can learn from this and grow from it. Definitely do not want to put their name on some sort of criminal record for it tho. That should go toward the coach, who essentially used them as weapons. Just my opinion

Id agree to that if they were adults or werent told to do this from a person with authority over them in an educational setting. but i can hardly argue against it lol. what they did was pretty bad
