Adjusting/Recreating a playbook and looking for the best program to use. I would like to list the responsibilities as well as draw each formation for each front possible. Ideas appreciated! Thanks

Sorry, didn't provide my dilemma. Excel doesn't let you create the offensive set with ease or draw man coverages. Word takes up an incredible amount of space, and loads pretty poorly.

I use Visio to create the drawings and I embed the drawings into Word for my manuals. It works very well for me and is highly transportable (I can use the diagrams in PowerPoint or easily post them to a website). It is not a playbook program. I have used a bunch of them and I have yet to find one I like. They typically have pretty rigid tools that don't give me the flexibility that I like. Visio works great in this area. Once you create templates, entering information becomes easy.

We have used playmaker pro for 10 years now and we love it. We can copy and paist into word or powerpoint if needed, but we have made all our templates in playmaker pro for all our offensive run plays, pass plays and defensive fronts and coverages.

I am sure you could find a local coach willing to share the program. We were able to get it through a university in our state. It's a great program and rather easy. There are always things that could be better about it but once you figure out the system it is simple to kick out a play in about 10 to 15 minutes.

If money is a factor and you don't care about the animation and movement, try using Microsoft Publisher. Let's you put a text box where you want it, make your ovals whatever size you want. I make my own templates and go from there. I make each defensive player as its own text box and can then move them wherever I want. I think a lot of schools get the program free when they get a Microsoft Office setup. It's not the best, but it is totally inexpensive and does the job.

I'll give another vote to Playmaker Pro.

Just FYI - 'sharing' software is a violation of copyright and is against the law. The only exception is 'freeware'. I mention this because I know of 1 coach who was fired because he was found to have bootleg versions of several programs.

The best I have ever used for diagramming plays is Coach's Office. I have that and Playmaker Pro. I don't like Playmaker. It's too screwy. Coach's Office is great for a clean, detailed play diagram.

Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
Takes some practice but once you get you can do everything.
We use it for our playbooks, scout cards, and tendency formulas

We use Coaches Office. It is quick and easy, formations are already programmed in when you get it, just a matter of putting people where you want them and saving it under your own formation name.

I have been using Playmaker Pro for about 6 months and I love it. I used to be an Excel guy until a local coach suggested I try Playmaker and just gave me a copy. I like being able to copy and paste it to powerpoint. I still use Excel for scouting cards and all that. What about Depth Chart Pro? Some guy at a clinic tried to get me to buy it for like $150, when you can pretty much do all that stuff in Excel.

I've used several products, Playmaker, Publisher, powerpoint and by the most versatile is MS Visio. I just re-drew my Publisher DW playbook using Visio and it has never looked better. once you get get you templates done , it's all gravy....There are also some visio templates available if you search google
