Need to go to principal to explain that our feeder needs new helmets. The ones they are using are for sure over 10 years old... Possibly a good bit older.
I need a link if anyone knows of one that explains legal ramifications if one where to fail.
I know Riddell has a shelf life, but last I checked, Schutt did not?
I know for sure these have never been reconditioned.

All helmets last 10 years period. NOCSAE is the governing body for recertification go on their website and you should find it there.
When we did our first year of the impact awareness program with the sensors & iPads we had to go through them as the sensor modified the helmet.
If a kid is wearing a helmet that is 10 years or older / not recertified following the NOCSAE standards the provider is liable.
As a side note as a parent I would loose my $hit if I learned my kid was playing with a helmet that hadn't been tested.

They either get new ones or we won't have a season..

That was the first thing I had to do walking into my new school. Had to order all new helmets for middle school. Every one of the old ones was 13+ years old. Just google helmet lawsuit, there's a bunch of stuff. Also a school district in NC recently lost a lawsuit over a kid sustaining a head injury. Helmets weren't reconditioned prior to the season even though they were reconditioned the year before which by the letter of the law is legal. Gotta do it every year.

for us, helmets have a 10 year rule
after its 10th birthday, it can never be worn again and we have to order new ones to replace
so every year, we are ordering more to replace the ones we lose
is your feeder program a school? public school? or just youth/club pop warner?
in CA, helmet reconditioning is part of the education code for public schools, it is the one thing a school district HAS to pay for

I know for sure these have never been reconditioned. We bought Schutt Recruit Hybrids for our youth program in 2012. They are supposed to last for 10 years, but that is only with yearly reconditioning.

We recondition our helmets every year. And probably get 3-5 rejected every year. That's how we know if They are good or not...

It only gets better as now not only do helmets have to be reconditioned every year, shoulder pads are every 2 years....as someone mentioned earlier baseballs/softball helmets and lacrosse helmets will be starting on a reconditioning program in 3 years here. Went into the wrong business.....should be a Riddell or Schutt guy
