Anyone have one of these things? Are they valuable to your program? I'm talking about the big things with the rolling/sliding 80lb dummy. I've never really considered one due to the expense, but I've had two guys in the last week swear by them. What are the benefits or drawbacks of these things?
I've been told I could maybe get one piece of equipment this year and this is what I'm looking at. Any suggestions or commments? Thanks.

we have one, but bought it used from another school. Its a good piece of equipment but it has its draw backs. What we like is how it teaches the kids to accelerate their feet on contact during the tackle. What we don't like is you tend to stay too high when making contact. If you hit the bag to low you will struggle getting the bag to drive the length of the bar. We paid very little for this piece of equipment but feel it has helped us in our tackling stations.

Looking at all this stuff, I'm starting to think a canvas sack full of straw hung from a tree limb with a coach working the rope is just as good as alot of this stuff.

we have one too. and i think it SUCKS! our kids play high to begin with and this doesn't help them stay low. it only helps them play high. i would only suggest buying this if you want your kids to play and tackle high. total waste of $2000. at the last school i was at we had a tredsled and it was the best thing ever. it is great for the off season and on rainy days when you want you kids to get some resistance work. www.rogersathletic.com/football/sleds/indoor_sleds.asp?pid=88i know it's almost $6000 but it is well worth it. it helped us get off the ball faster and keep our feet moving after contact. and stay low.

I was looking at this piece of equipment also. I am a parent and am trying to help out or schools middle school teams as well as the high school team. Since their budget is limited, I want to help out where I can. Arent these adjustable as far as how high the dummy hangs? IF so, wouldnt lowering the dummy way down help alot to keep the kids playing low? I would like to build one myself to save some money, but would need to see one up close first. I am in central WI, if anyone is near that has one, let me know.

I don't see a real use for it...because it is on a track and can not generate momentum after you make contact. Actual humans don't travel on tracks, and they can generate momentum after contact.
