Include a comment on what you do for film exchange in your league (or district or conference or whatever you call it where you are).
In our district we don't have a written policy but the agreement is that we exchange our last two games (sometimes we'll make it three). Sometimes-not often- it takes more than a couple phone calls to set it up even though we all have HUDL.

Every game in the conference is shared with everyone. It's a small conference so it's easier than trying to share your last two games which would end up with everyone having pretty much every game anyways. It's supposed to be bail able within 24hrs (home team shares). Some teams are better at it than others.

we have a written policy (last 2 games)
with an unwritten agreement that if both HCs agree to do film trade slightly differently then that is fine as long as both are cool with it
sometimes both will want 3 games instead of 2 someitmes theyll want to exchange one of the games a little earlier (never understand why, who is prepping for next opponent before playing someone else)
we have a written policy for lower levels too... 1 game... the last one you have filmed (sometimes at the frosh levels teams dont get a guy to film or something happens)
it is also written in that if one team in league has an EZ copy, they have to give it to the team they just played
so say we go play at School A... they have EZ cam and we do not, their HC is supposed to send us his EZ angle of the game, for us to use for film review

We start on the next opponent before the previous game has actually happened. By Thursday it's too late to be worrying about this week's gameplan, you start on the next week's breakdown. But we have a lot more time to devote to such matters.

I will have a guy on staff tag our next opponent. A lot of times it's a guy who doesn't have a lot of input or responsibility for game planning the upcoming opponent so I have him tag a game or 2 of the next opponent. Helps to have that done prior to Saturday so you can run reports sooner.

We have a written policy of previous 2 games. We try to get one early so we can start to get the data in out into hudl for our statistical breakdowns.

We are using Hudl league pool for the first time this year. Very excited to see how it work! It will be nice to be able to pick the films we want.

someitmes theyll want to exchange one of the games a little earlier (never understand why, who is prepping for next opponent before playing someone else) It was the standard practice for both Universities I coached at (this is pre Hudl, pre online exchange. We exchanged vhs. Could be worse, I could have traded actual film...lol) We would get two games mid week, and then the third on sunday (face to face exchange or sameday air) I would have LOVED to have this when I was coaching HS ball. It doesn't take any thought to do the mindless tedious breakdowns, so It doesnt really distract from the upcoming opponnent

I have prepped for a future opponent several times and it's always been a benefit. If we're playing a pitiful team in the current week that doesn't do anything problematic on offense and we have a great opponent coming up the next week, I will start preparing and practicing for the great team. To me, it's about time investment. If we have eight hours of practice time in a given week, I am not going waste all of it on a team that I know isn't going to trouble us in our base defense. We'll look ahead, spend more time on fundamentals or practicing backups / young players, or install something new.
I like this. We share the last three films, but I like as much film as I can get. I may not break down more than three, but I will at least watch films from earlier in the season to make sure the opponent didn't do anything unusual or different earlier in the season that might pop up again.

The schools in our league are fairly spread out, so the whole process of driving to a meeting place, meeting / talking politely for a bit, and driving back could easily cost you several hours of your day. Glad I don't have to worry with that anymore.

For league we exchange have to exchange last two films. We will sometimes exchange a third, but that's just if both coaches agree. All except of our opening opponents have been willing to exchange. Usually two games only.

Our district has no policy, not the best run heck our track and swimming championships are in another state but I digress, our region meets as coaches and we have a previous two game agreement. Another region in the district trades every game to every region team.

Our state requires the two most recent tapes. Coaches can agree to do it differently, but as a base line you have to provide your last two. Also has regulations on what needs to be shown on film and how much, such as the whole formation, all-22 (as much as possible), how much time before the snap, etc.
Not saying that everyone follows it, but it is a requirement of KHSAA schools in Kentucky.

We use league pool on Hudl so we can get every game our opponent has played. It's nice that you can't access other films until you upload your most recent game.
I have also started breaking down film for our next opponent on Thursday nights. Like others said, by that point there's nothing else you can do so I start on the next game. That saves time on Saturday.

I am back at my college alma mater and we exchange three games two the wednesday before we play, and then by noon the sunday before we play. Our league also requires that before trdaing all hash, yardline, and down and distance isentered. Our VC hates that because after the game is in hudl and everything. He has to go through the game and put that information in and then make it eligible for the other team to get it whenever they put there's up.

Our rules are to exchange the previous 2 games. The game played earlier in the season must be exchanged by Wednesday and the current weeks game must be exchanged by 9AM Saturday. We are not supposed to exchange film with other teams in or out of conference yet it happens all the time. All is done through HUDL.

Our HC tells the other what he wants and vice versa and there usually hasn't been a problem. Ours is done on Hudl and our HC sometimes shares with other HCs of our region to get other copies that he thinks would help ha

In conference it's the last 2, but in this business everyone has your film already.

Not trying to shift the thread, but does anyone else had a situation where:
You trade film with a school and you seems to be giving them HD quality film compared to the crappy, pixelated, recorded from the first original brick of a camera phone that is so bad that you can't even tell the jersey numbers and no possible way this team uses this film to watch or even grade type of film...
We used to always get this type of film from a school before we just asked other schools from our region for their games versus this team in the region.

Before I was brought in as an assistant at the school I am at now there was a coach within the conference who was known for sending out faulty film. Luckily for our head guy one of the other conference teams was able to send them some film on them.

I have a scrimmage film of our opponent for next Friday and I have already started tagging it in hudl for breakdown this weekend. Our game planning for this week was finished Sunday night. I don't have anything to do that's not getting done and my weekend time is valuable so I'm going to do as much as I can.

I used to work for a guy that said early in his career he would have a second cameraman that took crappy film to send to opponents. He said he gave it up after a while because he felt like it was just not giving that much of an edge.

At my old school In our first ever playoff appearance
The opponent gave us 2 year old film
Not one year old But two
I caught it when I realized the scores of games didn't match up
But since it was 2 year prior The jersey colors (home and away) matched up
Entire first day and second day of practice wasted
We had been preparing for completely different offenses and defenses and we had to adjust last second
Their coach "I don't know how that happened"
It screwed us

We start on the next opponent before the previous game has actually happened. By Thursday it's too late to be worrying about this week's gameplan, you start on the next week's breakdown. But we have a lot more time to devote to such matters. Aside from double checking a few things like their splits or player's numbers, I haven't checked the film for this week since Sunday. I'm starting the breakdown of the film we have on our week 2 opponent's scrimmage today & getting their scout cards ready to go in hudl for next week. I plan on doing this every Thursday if I have free time or between school & the start of pre-game on Friday.
