Does anyone do something different than the 6 allowed weeks, 4 times a week for a total of 24 workouts?
What is your workout plan and what days do you do them?
I know what this may sound like, and it's not about wanting to work less or anything like that. My staff and I have been talking about how hectic the summer is and how kids have so much going on.
We are a small 3A High School and have kids busy with a 7 on 7, basketball and baseball league 3 days of the week during June. In Football and Basketball, we advance to the state 7 on 7 and Basketball tournaments in July. We are getting to the point where we feel we are over killing our kids with these three things, as well as 4 days a week of strength and conditioning.
I know if we don't do the workouts, we are "falling behind other teams who are", but we feel we are wearing the kids out and not giving them a break.
For the most part, the kids who come to workouts would come up on their own and lift anyways, the kids who go to the sport events and don't come to workouts probably wouldn't come up on their own, but may if it's on their own time.
We've talked to some about only going the Month of July, or only the Month of June, only 3 days a week or even just one day a week where everyone is there.
We are kind of getting to the point where we want to miss the kids and the kids miss us as well so that when 2-a-days hit, everyone is excited to be back.
Has anyone run into this problem, and what do you do different in the summer? Please refrain from the "if you don't wanna put in the work" crap, this is not what this is about. We are looking for ideas to keep kids fresh, and want them looking forward to coming back to something in August, not just continuing something where the kids never get a summer anymore.
Thanks
