There have been a couple of old threads on this but wanted to get some more answers now.
How many schools have a full time trainer? I'm a new head coach and school I'm at has never had one. I'm pushing for one hard. How in the world would we go about finding one if I get the go ahead from admin? Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated!

Ours come through the local hospital network.

We have 1 that is a district employee, full time, fully trained. I'm not sure how many contract days he is paid, but he is there some in the summer to treat rehab players. We had a second one that was contracted through an orthopedic group. He left, so I'm assuming he will be replaced. We usually get an intern from a local college each semester also. We have a working deal with a local orthopedic group that sends one of the doctors once a week to check players if needed and he is on the sidelines on Friday.

Ours come through the local hospital network. Do y'all pay them separately?

We have 3 full time trainers. We have a state board that posts jobs for available positions. Ours don't teach class. Not sure how other school districts in other states advertise open positions.

The local therapy network paid $100,000 to have the right to have a full time trainer at the three high schools in our district. The three athletic directors put their noggins together and made this happen.

I pay $20,000 out my athletics budget (I am also the AD) and she covers all practices and games during the athletic calendar. She is fully certified ATC and worth every cent in terms of brings professionalism, knowledge, and rehab to our athletic department every day. We hire her as a contracted worked, not full time (district does not want to pay medical). It can be tough as many certified trainers work for rehab places where you would have to get a contract with the rehab place and pay extra. Look for kids going out of college that just got certified , they may be a good start.

Our district pays 10,000 for one. She is at all contact football stuff and most everything with the other sports. The last place I was at the major sports medicine place provided one free, and any injured kid was referred to a Dr. at the clinic.

My school has two full-time trainers employed by the district. I have been at places where the trainer positions are outsourced. The trainers were at school only on game days and not at all for any sub-varsity game.

Ours come through the local hospital network. Do y'all pay them separately? I actually have no clue. I just know she works at a local off site hospital place with other trainers who work at other schools. We also have a trainer in school who is also a health teacher. I'm pretty sure the school just pays her extra.

We have a full time trainer who is paid as a teacher and also receives a pretty good supplement. We also have a 1/2 time trainer who is paid by a large orthopedic doctor's group in the area (we share this position with another school who also has them 1/2 time). At my previous school, we only had a "first responder"...who knew next to nothing. I can't tell you how glad I am to be back with a trainer!!! Somebody is going to have to commit some financial resources in order to get you one.

We have one. The last two we've had came from Marshall University. Contact a major college and find a graduate who has worked with the football team. Worked for us.

We have one. He teaches the classes. Always at games. Practice attendance is iffy.
Been at places without one though. Thats a tough situation. Make sure someone knows how to tape ankles.

Before we got out AT we had a first responder that was iffy. We have one that we fought tooth and nail to get one She is paid by the district and teaches only 3rd and 4th block. She is at all football practices and games during the fall. All home basketball and wrestling matches in the winter and at all home games during the spring. She fully certified and has a great working relationship with a big university that she got her masters at and is close by. Every season we have about 2 or 3 student athletic trainers that are in their final years of college.. Through one of her contacts we are doing a concussion test where part of doing the study we get 20 free helmets each year for the next three years. Not to mention she gets a pretty good stipend to help her out on her end... I don't know how we did it before she got there.

At my previous school (private), we had a PT guy who was paid to be our team/school's trainer. Also helped that his kid goes to the school. Current school is a public school in the highest classification in the state. We have 2 AT's who are paid as well as working for all HS sports.
I would definitely try to get the AD to work with the principal and schools district to see if you can work something out.
