One interesting thing about this board is that you hear about the way things are done in different parts of the country. In the "Dream Job" thread on the Careers board somebody mentioned that part of a guy's jib was making sure that the visiting team got fed. I've also seen posts where guys talk about the food in the press box.
Is this common? In 36 years I have yet to have the home team feed us before or after a game. A handful of times we got fed at scrimmages or jamborees. I do have to say that until the playoffs we rarely have to travel over an hour for a game and most are a lot less than that.
As far as a spread in the press box the only time that that's happened was when we played in the state championship game at a college stadium. Since I was on the field that didn't do me a damn bit of good (Although one time our film guy missed the opening kickoff because he was too busy munching out on wings).
So how about you guys? Do you get fed at away games? Is there food in your press boxes?

Never been fed by the home team until last year, we had a road game about 3 hours away and they gave us a bunch of cheeseburgers on our way out. Played a bunch of teams from the same area and travel times over the years and never had it happen before.
We've only fed the opposition once, and it was the night before the game. Had a team come from 10 hours away the night before to stay over. We invited them to our team meal and had our kids sit with their kids and all that and fed them all.
Never seen food in the press box, we usually barely have room for two coaches to even get in there.

Kentucky.
Usually only get good as the away team at playoff games, but that's not the practice that every team has.
Food in the pressbox is something that some schools in our area have.

The only food I've seen in the pressbox is for media people, PA announcers, and other people who are working the game; it's not for coaches, although I wouldn't be able to eat during a game anyway. Never been fed by the home team when we go on the road, but our boosters bring lunch meat sandwiches, granola bars, and Gatorade for our players to eat afterwards. This is based on experience in southeast Iowa and western Illinois.

I did have a team in Mid-Michigan that received food from another school in our conference. I walked out of the locker room (after putting ice on my a$$) and a woman handed me a box which contained a couple slices of pizza and some bread sticks.
Still reeling from the shellacking I just took, I wasn't fully coherent of everything going on around me, so I asked her, how much I owed her. She probably said to herself, 'poor man.' She then explained to me that the food was provided by their boosters. With a look of pity on her face, she handed me a Gatorade and directed me toward my bus.
I never forgot that. I thought it was a pretty classy act on that schools part. They were obviously in a more affluent area than mine. They were a good program, but not the best in our conference. Upper third. However, it has always made me want to do that for other schools.
I have just never been able to pull it off.

We've never gotten food as the visiting team where I've coached. And there hasn't been food in the press box ever.

At my old school, we never fed any of our opponents. However, the press box would be LOADED with food, especially chick-fil-a during home games and was it was fair game for anyone who was up there. Our volunteers and people helping out with the home games were extrremely kind and helpful to everyone, especially the away team. Played a buddy of mine and he was raving about how nice our fans were and how he wanted to work where I was just for the food and hospitality ha.
I was in the press box my first year there and luckily we would be up by 30+ during half...so of course I would sneak myself a sandwich here and there as well as a powerade before we went to the field by the 4th quarter...it was safe to say that we set offensive records that year as well as me gaining a ton of weight that season.

We were fed twice last year, both were 4hrs+ road trips. Our booster club will return the favor when they come to our house.
I have never seen food provided in the press box for anyone. Then again I have also been to a couple of places that didn't even have press box space for the visitors.

There are a few schools in our area that make sure there is water or Gatorade in the press box for the visiting coaches to drink. One school (a more affluent area) even has a grill behind the press box, specifically for the people in press box, and they offer the visiting coaches a hot dog or hamburger. The dogs are better than the ones they sell at the snack bar...
Last summer we hosted a 7 on 7 game. A parent for a kid on the other team owned a pizza joint down the street from our school. Towards the end of the game there was about 40 pizzas and a few cases of water for both teams to enjoy.

Some schools in our area order food for their team out of the concession stand prior to the game but they pay. Some contracts state that you will pay for their meal after the game.

We have paid teams for a home game before and threw in a post game meal in the deal. So basically $1500 and feed you after. We have been fed once on a 4hr trip that we worked out prior to the trip.

Have never been fed by home team after an away game (Pre-Season scrimmage, yes) and food in Press Box is rare.

Our press box consists of me sitting in the bleachers at the 40 and having my JV players sit around me so that I can have a buffer from the parents. I also buy my own food from our snack bar during home games. I need to move lol.

For road trips that are a few hours out, some schools will offer it up to sweeten the deal when we are negotiating game details. I never ask for it but have had a few teams offer it up. Also have had some teams offer up lodging when the game was a super long trek across the state.

We usually give the away team burgers and popcorn that wasn't sold in concessions by our FFA. For away games it seems to be the same, we get leftovers if they weren't sold.
Almost half of our away games are over a 1 hour trip and we play a Soph game before the varsity game so we use our fundraiser money to purchase Subway for the bus ride to the game.

We usually have some food in our press box sometimes. I'll grab some on occasion. On road games I can think of one team that has had food in the in box and 1 that did offer something. We have on occasion had a meal with other teams, usually only during the pre season though.

Food after scrimmages is pretty standard. Never been feed after an away game.
Never had food in the box. Coffee a couple times. Once it actually helped me shut up some smart ass parents who were right below the box at an away game. I was saying trap is there run trap. Guys heard me and yelled "watch the trap!!!" I looked out the window and said in general " I just got a new cup of coffee and get kind of excited up here so I appologize if it falls out the window on you guys in advance". They didn't yell out any plays the rest of the night.
