I've only been a coach for a short time now, but I have learned at least one thing. When I wear athletic shorts (every day), I am constantly dropping things out of my pockets. What's the trick? Is there a certain type of shorts I should be buying that have an internal button or zipper? 5 times a day I lose items from my pocket, where is it you ask? it is wherever it has fallen, usually in the general vicinity or where I made the mistake of sitting down.
Which brings me to my next question. The bulky wallet does not seem to work well with the athletic shorts. Its heavy, it weighs my shorts down, plus it looks like I'm 6 years old running around with my pockets full of God knows what. I know their are many options such as the money clip or card wallet, just curious what everyone else is using to combat these issues.
Any advice on either of these two topics would be greatly appreciated, surely I cant be the only one, surely. ha

Agree on the wallet. My solution is to not carry mine. Plus, guys can't talk you into buying the beer if you don't have it! Win-win!

Get fatter.
The tighter the fabric, the less room for things to fall out

I only wear khaki shorts to practice. I can keep wallet, keys, etc in them without having to worry about them falling out.

I'll either have it in my car or desk....luckily the kids seem to be scared to enter into my office (I guess I give off a scary vibe). Not to mention there's a camera right above my room.

I only buy Nike basketball shorts I wear them every single day to work/coach/gym
If you see my not in Nike basketball shorts just trust that I am miserable on the inside
I've never had any problems with stuff falling out in these
In generic brand ones HC orders they're terrible and I no longer even take a pair when he orders coaches some
Nike makes different sizes and there are different pockets
If it's labeled Nike basketball It is usually a little longer and baggies Pockets seem to work perfect for me

#footballcoachproblems
Leave that stuff in your locker/car
Good coach needs a whistle Practice plan and a pen.

I wear gym shorts with pockets every day, either UA or Russell. I dont have any problems with stuff falling out of the front pockets. However, unless they have a back pocket, I dont carry my wallet in them, I leave it in my locker.

The first thing I do when looking at a pair of shorts to buy is see how deep the pockets are. If it's shallow it goes back on the rack, no questions. Learned that early on in my coaching career and all I carry to practice are the locker room keys and a practice plan.
Also, for out in the real world, I went to a front pocket wallet years ago, will never go back.

I bought workout-style shorts with pockets for our coaches every year.
Back pocket had a Velcro closure.

I've never had a problem, even without pockets. I tie my key ring to the draw string in my drawers. I keep the key or 2 I need to get back in the building door on a separate ring on my carabiner so I can leave the rest back in the office. Pen goes on my whistle string. And the schedule/script/ST chart is in a page protector stuck in my waist band. The only thing that aggravates me if I don't have pockets is not having a place to carry my snuff and my pocket knife.

Going off on a little tangent here. Since wallets have been brought up
Tossed the wallet last fall
Got a phone case with wallet built in to it Great investment
Most men have huge wallets with really nothing in it lol
Only thing in it I really need on a daily basis
ID, debit card, credit card, a little cash
All of that fits in my phone case easily and is still not a massive oversized case
I keep my old wallet with some other stuff in it on my glove box of my car Costco card Sam's card Kaiser card
I can grab them when needed but don't need them in my pocket 24/7

I went money clip too. But never any money in it. Instead I keep receipts from stuff I've bought with plastic. Lol
