There's another thread talking about the criteria to be a captains.
I was thinking, what requirements do you have for your captains when you've chosen the captains?
We have out captains doing the warm-ups, do the chant and told them to be the good example for the rest of the team. But we have some problems with the captains being to anonymous and kind of blend it with the rest of the players and not stepping forward when it's needed.
What do you do, to help the captains lead the team? Do you have captains-meetings? (how do these meetings work)
Do you have any rules for the position of the captains? - 2 offence/defence or perhaps 1 for each groups?
We need more visible captains, so would really appreciate any input I can get from here.
I know we've been vague in our explanation of our captains and that's why our situation is like it is.

I had lunch with them once a week (in season only) No rules... I have 1-5 captains and they usually play both ways, but some times they are not even starters. Doesn't mean they can't lead.

I don't think we necessarily had requirements, but we would collectively agree on who seemed to be a vocal leader and good example that the team could count on. Never had to be a senior, but it seems for most cases that seniors are chosen captains based on how it's their last year which usually makes them want it that much more...
I would definitely review it as a staff on who should be the captains of the team. Didn't necessarily have to be a star or even a starter, but someone that will get after it and after other guys who try to bring the team down or isn't giving 100%. That would be my "requirements" for team captains.

Also, forgot to mention that they would have to be somewhat smart...had a buddy of mine in HS during our playing days at the coin toss elect to KICK even though we lost the toss after the other team deferred and said it without hesitation...guess who lost his talking to the ref privileges the following game week? lol

If you have to tell them what to do then you should look for new captains.

I've heard the Marines talk at clinics several times, and each time they offer to speak about leadership to any team or group of captains whose coach wants them to come by.
Not trying to hijack the thread, but does anybody have any experience with this? Did you see a difference before and after?

That is a really good idea except our officials ask in Pre-Game conference, "Who's going to do the talking for you?", implying at least they want only one voice.

I always told the ref all 3. If he really pushed it, the kids can just remind the 'talker'
