What words did you hear the most at clinics this year. I attended 3 different clinics and I swear they used the Term "Tempo" "up tempo" and "control the Tempo" even if they were talking about tieing your cleats coming onto the field.

I guess I'm old fashioned, but unless you are a team that can really execute, I don't think being up tempo helps all that much. What good does it do to go three and out in less than a minute, and have the other team grind out a score? Many teams in our league try this because it's popular, and more times than not they end up getting themselves in trouble.
In a couple years, the pendulum will swing back and everyone will be running the t or bone and trying to chew clock and rather than have more opportunities, they would rather make fewer mistakes.

The word "dictate".
"Dictate to the offense." "Dictate to the defense." "Don't be dictated to by the other team."

"play fast" - what team wants to play slow?
"multiple" - blitzes, fronts, coverages. Allegedly no team aside from De La Salle has the ability or players to just play base defense nowadays.
"wrestler type" - does every DC go to the wrestling room to get their nose guards?
"Country Cover-3" I guess you need to be in the middle of nowhere to run Cover 3. Or we coach against the same offenses Saban sees week in and week out.
"Compete" Somehow playing and practicing a sport isn't competition. You need to add artificial competitions on top of the competition you are practicing.

"Under center" and "break the huddle." Wait maybe those were only in the cave man football clinic I attended.

If you're outmanned, a fast tempo can be one of the worst things you can do. "Hurry up and punt" isn't a good strategy.

"Tempo"is actually a rather generic word that just means the pace something is meant to be played at. If you're huddling and intentionally running the play clock down before snapping the ball, you're still "dictating tempo"!

As I understand it, just Cover 3 with spot drop coverage. This is correct. Its a term coined by Nick Saban because when he was with the Browns he couldn't run cover 3 as it has been run for 50 years at the HS level because it didn't work against DAN Fing Marino nor does it work against the offenses he sees in the SEC. Since we all face Marino Clones week in and out according to the clinic gurus you can't run cover 3 in HS.

I have also heard this stated as "change the presentation." The other one I heard a lot was "Key Screen."

They must be better at getting their separate setting/read aloud/extra time modifications than I am with my guys (we're still in test mode here...haha)

From college coaches: come visit us ANY time..sure... ive always had pretty good experience with college visits (granted i go to smaller schools) UC Davis, Cal Poly SLO, San Diego State, Airforce Academy. all have been really nice. but i could see the 'big wigs' being alittle tough to get ahold of.

From college coaches: come visit us ANY time..sure... HA, Ha, and Ha!!! Head coach and I went to a Nike Clinic mainly to ask a D1 guy (not in our area or even our part of the country) if we could come visit. Now keep in mind that he finishes his talk with "Come visit us any time." So we ask the D1 guy if it is possible for us to come visit; the D1 guy has GA give us his card, and the coach says call the GA and we will set it up. My head coach emails the GA THREE TIMES (1x a week for three straight weeks)and gets no response. I guess this is in line with the line, "This is where I want to be. I'm here for the long haul and am not interested in any other job."

From college coaches: come visit us ANY time..sure... That's why I found it refreshing when an NFL guy said, "Don't email me to ask for a copy of my Power Point. I don't recruit your players".
