The only time I ever took on my players were when they were in middle school or they're the tiny 5'5 160 lbs private school linemen...
I always place my bets on the ones I know I'll win

that coach is lucky he is alive. Well, looking at the coach standing next to the kid, he's not tiny himself. As funny as it is watching the coach get what he deserves what if the kid got hurt?

Its the athleticism difference that apparent that scared. THAT KID WAS NOT GETTING HURT. All he has to do is slip and tear an ACL and the coach is in court. Here's the video of Jacksonville's #1 draft pick blowing out his knee doing nothing. If this happens while going one on one with the coach the coach has a world of trouble. espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12848612/dante-fowler-jr-jacksonville-jaguars-tears-acl-first-day-rookie-minicamp

WTF does the coach gain out of this in the first place? I don't see the 'win' here...

At the school I teach at (coach at a different one), a student wanted to show me something "funny" on HUDL from the last night's practice. I usually stay out of any and all business regarding football at the school (resigned after the previous season and took a MUCH better job nearby), not even talking about football with former players who I had good relationships with (like this kid), but I agreed to watch this clip thinking it'd be no big deal - a big hit, ankles getting broke, etc. It was a big hit alright, but it was a COACH coming out of nowhere and blindsiding a kid during a live scout team play. I don't know who the hell this guy is (new after I left) or thinks he is, but I guess he thought it'd be funny if he'd take off and shoot a gap from his spot behind the LB's and level a kid on offense. I mean, it's an idiot move regardless, but this coach is 330+ pounds and the kid is a small RB - maybe 150. He lit him up hard. The coach was real fortunate that the kid wasn't injured.
Needless to say, it put me in a really bad position. I didn't want to look like a former coach with sour grapes complaining to the administration, but at the same time this was completely unacceptable. I felt weird about it but did end up mentioning something to the principal (former HC at the school - would not have resigned without his blessing, he knew the current staff and state of the program was crap). I don't know if there was ever any reprimand, didn't hear anything and didn't bother checking back on it, but the guy is back coaching next year. Some people are morons.

I thought the same thing. Looks like a coach having some fun with his boys. Every year, we always close out the summer with something silly. We had an offense vs defense dance off and we ended with the captain of the offense vs the DC. Just some light hearted fun. I see what some of you guys are saying with the injury risk but it's not like the DBag in the blindside story.

Some of you need to lighten up. I took that video as something that was a little more light hearted and fun rather than being actual competition. Not really any different than a coach saying he's faster than one of the players and then racing them. On some side notes ...the coach lost, so the coaching staff should have had 20 pushups. ...the coach, a perimeter pass rusher going against an OT came inside on 1 on 1 pass rush...that's another 20 pushups ...the coach, did not get his hands out, engage or use his hands in any way to defeat the pass protector ...the coach, never got the OT to turn his hips outside...and should not have tried coming back under a square OT and I know the kid "could" have gotten hurt, but it's not like they were really getting after it. I liked it. Looked fun. Yeah, it's not like I was horrified when I saw the video. It was funny and the kids had fun. BUT... Unfortunately you do have to think about liability in this day and age.

I started with nothing and I have most of it left. This kid is committed to an SEC school. If he gets hurt somebody might come to your house and poison your trees.

Looked like some good fun to me. I especially liked the coach's little warm up/stretch...you gotta be ready to go!

A friend of mine coaches at West Orange. I messaged him on facebook and asked about this. The coach who is pass rushing, that's the OC. With this new information, it is obvious that the kid was in absolutely no danger of being beat on the pass rush or having his candy or lunch money taken. Was he wearing his visor under his helmet?

I get this weird feeling like that kid doesn't have to deal with having things taken from him very often...

I started with nothing and I have most of it left. Only thing @dcohio is that should something happen, this is an indefensible act. You may not be worried about your net worth, but your famous tagline "I WILL coach football and I WILL teach math, it just may not be here" might not be accurate should something badluck occur while doing something like this.
