He made some pretty arrogant comments last week that were largely ignored or brushed aside by the mainstream media.
If guys like Terrell Owens or Randy Moss made those same kinds of comments, they would have been skewered and held up as examples of what is wrong with the NFL today.
How much longer does this arrogant egomaniac get a free pass? For a guy who has only 2 playoff wins in the past 10 years, he sure seems to be coated in Teflon.

Why don't you just come out and say that you are a Bear fan? Two time MVP, 1 Super Bowl RIng, 2 Super Bowl Appearences, approaching numerous all-time records......hmmmm.
Maybe you should do what most of the major media and fan base does-ignore it.
As for your comparison to Moss and Owens:
Favre never ran over a cop. Never walked off the field with time still left on the clock. Never referred to his income as "straight cash homie" Never spiked a football on the star in Dallas as a showing of "1 upmanship", then turned around and signed a contract with the team Never took a play off
The only negative you can really say is his pain killer addiction-which he brought out in the open.
Favre may be an egomaniac-what professional athlete isn't to a degree? But at least he is not a straight up dick-head like those two clowns.

Yeah I agree with Paydirt, he gets a pardon on this one. he is a legend. You'll probably rip me because I don't even address the issue that you brought up, but Favre is just being honest about how he feels. He wants to win, bottom line. He isn't bashing current teammates or the guys that lay it out on the line for him, he just wanted some supporting cast.

Packer fan for the last 20 years...live in Wisconsin.
Comparing Favre to Randy Moss or Owens is silly.
Now, is Favre perfect? No...and that's why he is so loved. The man and his family have done so much for the state of Wisconsin it's insane.
Fact is: He's there on game day, gives 100%, plays at a high level, and is respected by his peers.
Guys like Moss, Owens, miss games for little injuries, don't always give 100%, take plays off, and are not respected by their peers.

I am NOT a packer fan. I do respect Favre.
Have you followed the past few seasons after their new GM, Thompson took over? He has dismantled the entire team. It appears that he is rebuilding. Out with the old regime, Holmgren/Sherman era. In with his new era. He has completely ripped the team apart and Favre has allowed them to hold some respectability by winning games for them. Without Favre, IMO, they win 2 or 3 games last season.
I certainly understand that his words sound brash and like something MOSS or TO would say. The big difference is that the entire Packer nation actually sided with Favre when he said that. They don't want him to leave but respect him so much that if he had left they would have understood. When Moss or TO say something like that there is usually no basis for their statement except making themselves look better. Favre has been a true leader the past couple of years and watched while the GM tore his team apart. Then when they had a chance to get a game breaker, he still wouldn't do it.
Again, I'm NOT a packer fan, and secretely wished Favre would have left or been traded so all the other pack fans would finally close the door on the Holmgren era.......

I agree with the assessment that Favre is one of the greats and definitely a 100% team player. I was suprised that he would want Randy Moss on his team. I think though that he wants to win so bad that he would even put up with Moss to do so. I just don't think that the rest of the "Packer Nation" would be able to.

I am a packer fan and I believe the situation is bad for both sides. much like jerry jones had with emitt smith. both sides want there cake and eat it to.
clearly the packers are trying to rebuild into a defense like the bears through the draft and run the ball on offense. they are not going to go get big named, high priced free agents and be the yankees to try and win now while they have favre.
personally had I been the gm years ago, when mike holmgren left and he offered me what he did(which was 2 first round picks and john kitna) I would have taken it. now the packers get nothing just like the cowboys go with the triplets.

I don't know, I grew up in Milwaukee, I love Favre, but he has gotten a free pass for a long time now.. He hasn't been a good QB the last few seasons- one thing you can count on more often than not is Favre throwing the game away late with his gunslinger attitude.. That's beside the point though because the Packers aren't a very good team anymore, and maybe you could make the argument Favre's a gamer and will do anything to try to win- I get that, and I respect it.. Cool.. But where Favre lost a lot of people was #1 laying down for Strahan- sorry, but that was disrespectful to the game... and #2- butting in during Javon Walker's hold-out- that's a part of football these days and it's considered bad etiquette to comment on teammates contract squabbles.. I think these guys make way too much money, just like everyone else does, but I also grew up in an era where we were taught to keep our nose out of other peoples business, so I can see why people lost some respect for him..
I like Favre, he's a first ballott HOF'er, but he does seem to be living off of his past for a long time now..

The thing that I get sick of is when people talk about Favre being a "gunslinger" and "doing whatever he has to to win". I think it is a crock because when other players exhibit Favre-like tendencies, they are usually labeled "selfish" or "undisciplined".
I used to be a big Favre fan (especially when he stuck it to the Bears), but, IMO, the magic is LONG gone and it is time for him to ride off into the sunset (or make more heartburn medication commercials).
There is a reason that he is disparagingly known as "Lord Favre" by his detractors...

I'm torn on how I feel about Favre. I hated him for taking it to the Bears all the way up until a few years ago, but respected the talent he had. I do agree with wildcat's "gunslinger" comment, but I think the heat he takes for thinking about retirment is unfair. He doesn't miss games/part of the season or go from team to team like Roger Clemens does. To me, he's had a great career, but it's time to move on whether that's out of GB or into retirment.
