(So to preface this I am in a County that doesn't have Middle School football and a rec league that is lack luster at best)
Third game of the JV Season we were beating the other team pretty good so we put in all of the ERW (Eat Ride Warmup) WR on the field. We huddle up and get the play called. Simple Zone right....Run the play and we get a flag for not enough men on the LOS. Ok no problem tell the WR's to make sure their alignment is correct. Second play Read Option. Pick up 8 or so. I'll be damned another flag. To many Men on the LOS.. I call a time out to get the situation fixed. So I bring the kids together and I asked the receivers what in the heck is going on. "Coach-The official is telling me to line up on the line. When I wasn't on the line he said I had to move up and when I was on the line I had to move back" The poor kid was lining up the field lines instead of the LOS.. Meanwhile, the head coach is crying in laughter. It was all I could do not to laugh in the kids face. I just simply looked to the sideline and whistled for someone else.
I do have to say this was a lesson learned. Until this day I do not do JV Team Offense on a Yard Line. We still talk about that to this day.....

I didn't think it was a penalty to have more than 7 on the line?

I didn't think it was a penalty to have more than 7 on the line? According to the NCAA rule-book it's an illegal formation if you have more then 4 players in the backfield. So you can put your entire team on the LOS if you want, but only the ends would be able to run downfield on a pass. With that being said, this rule had a change a few years ago. Before that it said that offence must have 7 players on LOS. So either this store is a few years old or it's from some league which rule still says 7 on the line.

The problem was we had to many men in the back field not enough on the LOS on both plays. I need to proof read better haha!
