I thought this was funny:
Tonight I get a call from one of my former OL guys- he's a freshman in college, home on break. He has a nasty stammer and it gets REAL bad when he's flustered.
"Coach- I didn't know who else to call. I'm stuck in the mud and need help. My car is 2wheel drive..." (He stuttering like crazy at this point so I had to make him repeat himself like 4 times...) Me- "Ok- send me your location as a text and I'll be there in a few to tow you out. By the way, what the hell where you doing in the mud?"
"Ok, see me and my girl were trying to have some 'quiet time' and we got stuck out in this field. I didn't know who else to call..."
Me- "by God...did you at least finish?" (Just being a smarta$$)
"Of course coach- honeymoon muscles- Would've made you proud..."
So under a shower of laughter I drive out and crawl around in the mud for an hour pulling him and his mortified girlfriend out of a field.
So be careful when you extend the "all me if you need anything" invitation...you may be eating those words

This is awesome. Probably one of the best coaching stories I've ever heard. Gotta help those OL guys out any chance you get.

Yeah man- OL PRIDE BABY!
We had 6am workouts in college- OL only, and if you missed you got death by bear crawl...one caveat to the rule: if you missed because you were up late getting some strange we only had 30yds of bearcrawls BUT the girl had to leave a message on our OL coach's office voicemail.
Our coach was awesome of course- he'd be walking/jogging beside you while you were bearcrawling getting all the gory details...asking "was it worth it?"
Awesome!

I have been coaching this game for 40+ years. There are so many things that football players do that are funny.
Had a new thing happen this year. We had a female try out for our team. Now this in itself is not unique. Because she was a junior she was required to be on the varsity program. She wasn't very good, not aggressive, weighed about 120 and would be a good scout team player as a receiver/defensive back. Just had to be aware of the match ups to keep her from getting killed. I was the only coach who talked to her, the other coaches were hoping that she would quit.
After the first day of contact practice she came to me and asked if she could have a new pair of shoulder pads. I asked her why she needed new pads, and she kinda sheepishly said:"Because these pads aren't long enough." So I had her bring me her pads and sure enough, she wasn't covered in a most sensitive part of her female anatomy. Which ever coach gave her the pads, just tossed her our "youth small size" and never made sure that they fit properly. So, in the presence of our female adult trainer, I had her try on like 25 sets of pads to find a pair that were "long" enough.
How do you spell uncomfortable?

Uncomfortable is wearing pads that aren't long enough!
