Good luck, be prepared for burnout(both coaches and players). But on the plus side, you'll get really good at running plays against the Cover 2 man defense.

I wish that was legal in Illinois! We still probably wouldn't do it for reasons stated above! Burnout!

It's not legal in Ohio, but I know the kids occasionally put together their own 7 on 7's in the spring. I think it's good to do a few times to keep the kids sharp on the fundamentals, but everyone weekend seems a bit much.

I agree with the above posters 100%... Have not done a 7 on 7 tournament in years... Two years ago in 2013 we started a freshmen QB who passed for over 1200 yds and 70% completion rate.. No 7 on 7.. Have not done a 7 on 7 tournament since Spring of 2011...
Last year he was replaced by a sophomore who passed for over 1800 yds/16 TDs/ 8 Ints and .. 64% Completion rate.. The number # 4 ranked QB in our area (Out of around 20 teams). We have three WR catch between 30 - 39 balls... Our pass game was pretty efficient.. More efficient then most..
7 on 7 usually produces bad, bad habits.. Prefer coaching them together in August when it counts.

We have always used 7 on 7 to work on our "Friday Night" stuff. Too many teams run passing league plays that have very little chance of working in a game. 7 on 7 IS NOT FOOTBALL but that being said it does give you an opportunity to compete. To see how your guys will respond to situations and like real games, when you have 2 good teams competing, it does only come down to a handful of plays that decides the outcome so there is "teach-ability" from doing 7 on 7. Repeatedly tying up everyone Sat. does not sound like a good idea though.

I don't know if this would be legal in Iowa--probably not--but we still wouldn't be able to do it, because soccer is a spring sport here and many of our skill kids play that.

The coaches in my area have put together a spring 7 on 7 league for about 5 weeks in March and April. The state rule is you can have non contact practice if you are signed up for a league. I don't care about the league. We just get to have a couple 45 minute practices in March. We basically install our entire offense so when spring ball starts everyone knows what they're doing. Been doing it for two years. Haven't seen a burnout.

We could never do that as it's track and baseball season during that time for us. Would never get enough kids to fill out a team.
Kind of along these lines I saw that graphic going around saying of the 50 players Ohio St has signed in the last two years 45 were multi-sport athletes in HS. Some times less is more and trying to do stuff like this just because other teams are can be counter productive.

I agree coach... Our best athletes run track.. Our top skill players are fast and run the 100, 200, 400 etc... We want them to continue that.. Plus others play LAX, Baseball...
You have plenty of time in the summer to work with them and obviously come August plenty of time to coach them up and make them better with all of them being there...

Waste of damn time. In my experience this is mostly about the coach getting his football fix rather than actually improving the team.

We like to do 7v7 in an informal "league" during the summer, where no score is kept and the coaches of the other teams understand that the sessions are meant to be instructional. Everyone works their base passing game (same they use in-season) and base coverages. We stop play between two teams if coaches need to make corrections or walk through something. Everyone who shows up plays.
I'd never pay to attend a tourney ever again, and I definitely wouldn't do something every weekend through the spring. Maybe ONCE during the spring, just to get the juices flowing, could be interesting...but not as a regular part of our rhythm. Kids need to focus on their in-season sports and not get burnt-out on football. The season is long and grueling enough as it is.

How many of you that have responded have a PE Football class? All of this (passing offense) is usually installed during the Spring during school. Our PE class is the last period (90 mins) of the day. Jan and Feb we would go out 1 day a week and lift the other 4. Starting in March we go out 2 and lift 3.
The 7 on 7 we do in the summer here in SC.
