M-W 6-7pm Th- 6pm F- Home-Midnight, Away- 1am Sa- 8am-Noon (break down film at home after) Su- 7am-Noon (make scout cards at home after meeting)
We have been on this schedule for 14 years. Allows for plenty of family time. All of this will probably change because we are getting a new HC.

Monday: JV night, so it could be as early as 8:00 or as late as 10:00 depending on home or away and how far if away. Tuesday/Wednesday: Regular practices from 3:30 until 5:30. Home by 7:00 and it's only that late if I go to the Y for a short workout aftewards. Thursday: walk through plus team dinner. Generally, home by 7 Friday: game night. Our games generally run late in Iowa because of freshmen/varsity double headers. Even if it's a home game, it's generally midnight or later before I get home. Saturday: Nothing scheduled as this is the day our staff watches film on it's own time. Two hours of film normally Sunday: Staff meetings at 9 in the morning. Generally, we're done by 11 and it's gets even shorter as the season goes on.

I have had different work schedules at ever place I have coached. We are at the mercy of the school schedule most of the time. Normally:
Monday - JV Game get home at 10 pm. If no JV game I get home at 6 pm Tuesday & Wednesday - 7 pm Thursday - Pre Game practice takes 90 mins the go to feeder school game 8 pm Friday - 12:00 or 1:00 AM Saturday - Family Day and film on own Sunday - Meeting in late afternoon 7 PM
I really find that I get so much more done by being efficient. Using technology has made this so much easier especially working during the school day during down time is so much easier because of technology. I also really like using out of season game planning meetings so that time isn't wasted in season.

M-W: about 7 Thursday: between 9-10 if we have our "Walk-thru" after the underclassmen play. Sometimes we can get it done during our football class so I get home about 6 on those days. Friday: between 1-2 AM (which is technically Saturday haha) Saturday: gone from 8-12 Sunday: work from 12-12 with one break for dinner Noon to midnight? yes

What in the world do you do there for 12 hours after spending 4 hours there on Saturday?

Monday- Film at 6:30 am. Home by 7 pm. Tuesday - Home by 7 Wednesday - Study Hall at 3 pm. Film at 4 pm. Practice from 5-7 pm. Home by 8:00 pm. Thursday - JV or Freshmen Game. Home by 7 since I always stay for the Home game. Friday - Home game I'm home by 12. Away games, it depends on the trip. We have a few teams in our league that are over 2 hours away so sometimes it is around 3. We have 2 other teams that are 10 min away so it's like a home game. Saturday and Sunday - Coaches all break down their film responsibility at home. With HUDL I feel there is no need to meet.

It is the schedule I have run for the last 3 years for our HC. It might sound foolish, but it is dead on and my girl said I was being generous with time. She gave the old "don't include what you do in the off-season". Our HC is very resistant on giving out responsibilities and delegating. I take on more than I should, but I love it. I feel I have worked hard over the years and earned it and want him to know he has me if he needs anything. I have no kids and a great girl who gets frustrated, but was given the outline when she signed up. She knows where I want to go and who I am. She is 100% on board. I want to be the best assistant coach I can be. I want to be the coach that I would like to have on staff someday. I want to get to the top and become a HC and I ask for a lot so I am prepared when the day comes. The HC might abuse me a little, but it is what is best for the kids, the program, and the staff. I try to lead by example for our kids and guys on staff to show what it means to have a good work ethic, desire to better yourself and provide everything they need and then some. I don't have to do it, but I choose to. Everyone thinks I am crazy and tells me to cool down even guys I work with. I tell them "if you want me to take it easy, they help me out so I can get some free time." I don't get any takers. I have tried to delegate and get burned. I tell myself if you want it done, do it yourself. My father is a workaholic and never understood why he put in the hours he did and still does without compensation or appreciation at his employment where he has been for 40 years. I grew up asking why and why was he never around and like the Harry Chapin song Cats in the Cradle I grew up just like him. I know nothing else. Work is what I like. It keeps me busy and keeps my add and ocd in line. Our HC is there a lot too. Our high school is large and has great tradition. He has his hat in alot of things and try to support and make his job easier if I can do anything to help him out. He has recently started a family and I want him to have the all the time he can with them and if that means I have to stay a little longer and do a little more then so be it. I rather help others first than worry about myself. So what does the Head Coaches schedule look like?

Maybe I'm missing something, maybe not... But I've never understood the Sunday morning meetings. especially short ones (1-3 hours) The people I've worked with / been around always made it a point to not start anything on Sundays till after 1 (generally enough time to get to church if you choose and maybe a quick bite with the family)
maybe I'm old fashioned though...haha!

In our case, Sunday morning was a mutually agreed upon time. None of us were churchgoers and it actually was the best time for us to get together as a staff.

Monday is a later night for us, home around 8'ish. Tuesday & Wednesday around 7, Thursday is JV game, if it's a home game I'll go, usually home no later than 10, rarely go to the away games (we have to travel a good dist. to our away games). Friday, home game, midnight, away game midnight to 2 A.M. or so. Saturday we are off but I'm usually at home breaking down film all day, or most of the day anyways. Sunday I continue to break down film and begin the game plan, then meeting from 3-5 Sunday afternoon, usually home by 5:30, but then continue to break down film/game plan until around midnight (I'm the only guy who does it on our staff for the defensive side of the ball). Then repeat the process on Monday. Yes I'm married...happily...and to 1 dam good football wife.

This thread would need a suicide watch if we tallied up the hours over a season and figured out an hourly wage... I did this over the course of one calendar year a couple years ago. Went 11-1 that season. It really wasn't that bad. Probably around 3 bucks an hour or so. I'll have to dig out my calendar again and do the math.

I leave for work at 5:30 each morning and have a 108 mile round trip from home to work to practice this has to end soon. Tough when you have a nice home, job, and coaching position just not near each other.
Monday Home at 9 Tuesday Home at 8 (lifting after practice) Wednesday Home at 9 (MS games always go to home ones road ones most teams in our league are closer to my house if it is one of the two schools farther away I don't go) Thursday Home at 9 (JV Game) Friday Home late (staff gets together to socialize after, wives/families are all there) Saturday film exchange for those who don't have hudl break film down on own. Sunday Meet at 4 typically done around 8.
If it weren't for the drive this would be much earlier as we have to start practice later and finish later.

The head coach has a similiar schedule except he gets out a little earlier than me on Friday night and 30- 60 minutes nightly.. Also, he coaches 9th grade as well on Saturday mornings.

M-R - 2:45pm film/lift/study hall rotation, 3:30-5:30 practice, 5:45 film again by positions, any coaches meeting takes place after until about 7pm
F- Home about 11pm
Sat- Kids come in at 8:30, Film until 10:30, home by 11am.
Sun- No organized activities. We do have coaches meet up, coordinators contact me to finalize plans.
I keep it like this to free up our staff to be with family. All of us have kids/wives, and they play sports on Saturday mornings. Have a couple coaches go to church on Sunday (1 is a pastor) so I make that time off limits.
The majority of our work gets done on the weekend via phone/texting and Hudl. Also, this is only our official times we're together. We work from home most of the weekend. Each coach has a job to do, including correspondence with their coordinator/HC (me).

Monday-Wednesday: Home around 7, unless we decide to paint the field for a home game on Wednesday after practice Thursday - Varies between 7-10, depends on where our JV game was at Friday - Ranges between 11pm - 2am, depends on where we play, with our schedule, we go from a game 20 minutes away to over 2 hrs away. I upload our video to HUDL. I have gotten where I do it from home, get it started and usually fall asleep while it finishes. Saturday - no organized activities, I usually handle the exchanges between 8-10am. I will watch our game from Friday a couple of times at least, sometimes more. I will also usually have watched our upcoming opponent at least once. Sunday - Staff meeting starts at 2 usually ends around 7 or 8.
