The funny thing about the forum is that I've chatted with some guys here for years-some going back to before Huey's, to Pigskin Preps and Toby's. I know their philosophies, personalities, and even their families but if they walked into a room I wouldn't recognize them and they wouldn't know me. For the record - just assume I am the best looking guy in the room and you will be fine...

I'm in year 22 of coaching. Feel like I know nothing. Contemplating getting out after my kids go through (youngest son is 7th grader). Over a 15 year period won 80% of our games include two sectional titles. Last two years we have gone 3-17. It's like getting kicked in the balls by a donkey. School is in one of the toughest leagues in the country. I have a lot of excuses I could use...but getting better is at the top of the list. I'm a Cancer. Love long walks on the beach. I also am @coachinggripes And the real me is tothehouse Though Griping is much more fun. I love @coachinggripes I can relate to almost all of those gripes...

Would you think someone had a great idea if they were 0-10 last year? I have learned a ton on this site! The best is when you finally get to meet your cyber buddies!
I have coached undefeated teams as well as winless teams too. It comes down players, dedicated staff and LUCK.... maybe support too

There are many, many great coaches on this board, and I have learned more football here than from any other source. Success is very, very relative, and is not solely defined by wins and losses. Regardless of whether you were 0-10 or 16-0, everyone has something to offer. Coach Huey and Tog and all the moderators do a great job of keeping this board as pure as it can be. Looking forward to the next 10 years of Coach Huey!

I have coached high school ball for 23 years, 16 as an assistant and 7 as a head coach ... and anyone getting on here giving their overall record to somehow give credibility to what they post only makes me wonder what they are really about ... if you are coaching youth or high school ball like the majority of us on this site ... it doesn't matter what a coach's overall record is ... all of us are in unique situations all over the country dealing with school boards, communities and young men from all walks of life.
Personally, I do not care what your record is ... if you can coach ball and can communicate it effectively on this site I am reading it and look forward to learning from all of you. Thanks Coach Huey for 10 years of great discussions and making all of us better coaches! Keep it rolling!

I have been bouncing around for some time. I have coached for 12 years. Started as a middle school head coach/varsity assistant, coached a little D3, been a HS head coach, and now am a position assistant and special teams coordinator.
I can say at the high school level in Indiana as an assistant and HC both we never missed the playoffs...then again in Indiana everyone is in!

I didn't go to college right out of HS. I was a D3 player and my GF got pregnant, so I went to work. Had I known about a vasectomy in HS, I would have asked for that for my 15th birthday. HOLY HELL THAT IS FRUCKING HILARIOUS

Born, raised, played & started teaching/coaching in VA. Worked at 2 different HS's where I was fortunate to be on the staffs of very successful HC's. Combined they had 9 State Titles...so I listened ALOT. Was a part of 2 State Championship teams while at my last stop...which was my alma mater and a great staff to work with. Met my wife-to-be & moved to Long Island, NY. Got a job at a school that had won 6 games over 5 seasons, and only 6 winning seasons in school history. Was supposed to just be the DC, but come July...I was made the HC. Have had 3 losing seasons in 14 years and have gone 25-5 the past 3...no championships yet but we've been close to getting there. Great character kids and coaches to work with. Most proud of where our kids go to play and that they do it the right way as student athletes.

I coached for over 30 years mostly Oline and LBs at the same school I played at. I was DC for some years and OC for one but never had control of anything. I am not coaching any longer, watch my son's team and other games. Don't really miss it because my situation turned a bit sour at the end.

bull corn huey huey's team has gone deep in txhsfb playoffs the last few years my team just won the school's first undefeated district title but here is the thing so what? my best year coaching was with huey a long time ago on a team that was 2-8 one of the reasons for this board was the fact that the IDEAS and the logic behind them are what matter, not how great your record is---record is impacted by talent more than your coach ideas You guys have done a great job of progressively getting better the last few years. It's really impressive what yall have done. Congrats!

I had gotten away from this site for about a year or so. Came back recently as was labeled a "lurker" (Ouch). I enjoy reading and I do post from time to time. I've coached QBs, WRs, and TE's and have been an OC for a short time. I coached MS DBs one year too. I've been a part of 4 State Championship teams in SC. Lost in the SC another year. Currently, I've decided to take some time off. My decision. Not sure what door God has in store to open or when/if it will happen. My oldest son has decided not to play as a sophomore. That's been a real head-scratcher as to how to handle. Really enjoy this board.

Best coaching job was with a young team that went 5-5 and missed the playoffs. That season we focused on laying a foundation that has taken us to 6 straight playoff appearances, 3 district titles, and 1 regional title. Without that 5-5 season, we would not of had the success we have today.

This season will be 24 years for me. Ive been an HC, OC,and DC. I've coached at urban and rural schools. Public and private schools. College GA for a year. I've had a lot of different kids over the years:smart ones, funny ones, big ones, and fast ones. I've been blessed with a lot of good players over the years, one even plays in the NFL, and people tend to call me a great coach when I have a lot of good ones come through at the same time.

This season is 13 years for me. I was a bad player in HS, didn't play college ball, I started coaching a month after turning 20 and haven't looked back. I knew jack squat when I started. I know a little more than squat now. I actually started a blog to practice teaching ideas and scheme to my assistants.
I've coached Indy-8A, freshman-varsity, been an unpaid assistant-OL/assistant-DL coach (didn't coach the position by myself) and now a head coach. I've filled water, painted the field, mowed grass, washed laundry, etc. I've coached a 1-9 team and a state semifinals squad. AN NFL prospect and a lot of guys that went pro in something other than sports.
My proudest moment as a coach was beating the FHSAA in an appeal and getting our Danish kicker eligible for his senior season.

Im late to the party but here goes... started out at my Alma Mater where i developed a love for coaching, had a successful little JV season there... went on to a rival school and helped build that school up winning a league title. Went on to a school within my teaching district as a JV HC where I was "promoted" to varsity as an assistant coach (quarterbacks) the next year. Here I learned how important collegiality among staff is, because we had none. Without going into too much detail, they were lookin for a new varsity HC within 2 years. Im back to the spot with the league title this year. Got called outta the blue to come back and its always nice to feel wanted

On a snow day and enjoyed reading this thread so I thought I would chime in....Began coaching Baseball while I was still in college. Moved back home and was asked to be a 6th grade football HC (they wanted anyone but a parent I assume). This is where I fell in love with football, a little success out of the gate was nice. The year after I take a job as a HS assistant, Head Freshman Coach and RBs/DBs. Become Head JV Coach after that. Move to the city and take a job as varsity DBs and Head JV coach at a small private school. Enjoyed it very much, finished my teaching degree (went back to school) while I was there and landed a job as HS teacher and assistant football coach last fall at a school not too far away. And next season will be my first as a varsity defensive coordinator (5th year varsity football, 6th if you include MS, plus 2 years of baseball before that). I am 28 years old.

I'm a young DC at my alma mater. Our program does not have a long history of success but it is improving and this year we have a lot coming back and have the ability to have a productive season.
I cut my teeth in coaching under a former NAIA HC and DC. Learned more in 3 years than I had in the rest of my life combined. With any luck I'll have my own program at some point in the future.

I've been around for for sixteen years and coached in high school state title games, won youth league titles, and had many winning seasons. However, each of those have been balanced out by some seriously sub-par seasons and a few where we didn't win a game.
You coach long enough and you realize that every season is different. You can do everything right, year round, and still end up getting your butt whooped for a season. And, the flip side is true, you can have a horrendous off-season, crap practices in season and go deep into the play-offs.

I've been learning from this site for close to a decade. Going on my 15th year as a Dcord and Oline coach.
Started in a Double Wing system. ..thus my profile name, thought it was the best offense ever created with no equal. Now im many years removed and doing the spread gig ...and still wondering how to change my profile name :-(
Just took a Dcord/oline job at the high school I went to. Very blessed to be a part of these good ol game of pigskin!
This site has been more helpful than all the clinics I've ever been to without a doubt!
