In NC there are a few, we have our fair share of Mountaineers, (Tuscola, Mitchell Co. and Kings Mountain)and Pioneers (Watauga) in the western part of the state. We also have the Hilltoppers (R-S Central), Chargers (Crest), Whirlies (Greensboro Grimsley) Red Tornadoes (Hickory), Gryphons (Rocky Mount)-That is probably the strangest in NC. Green Wave (Ashbrook), Wonders (AL Brown), Warhorses (Owen), just to name a few.

Nebraska: Bloomfield BEES Benson BUNNIES Cozad HAYMAKERS Minden WHIPPETS Lincoln LINKS (like a chain...why not Lynx?) Sutherland SAILORS (in West Central Nebraska??) Farnam GREENBACKS (school closed in 93)

sad thing is I am currently at one of the odd mascot schools above and have been at two others on this list.

Saw a thing on ESPN about the Bloomington Bombers, who had a Nuke Cloud on the sides of their helmets...

Bloomington Bombers, who had a Nuke Cloud on the sides of their helmets...
I'm sure the players love that...
The mascot talk reminds me of a story (I can not verify if it is true)... Eaton HS in Colorado is the Reds. The issue of political correctness stepped in and they were under pressure to change. Apparently someone suggested a change to "Beavers", and it was almost accepted until the final authorities considered potential cheers... "we are EATON....EATON Bea...."

In Oklahoma, the Haskell Haymakers.....their mascot is a fist with a lightening bolt. Oklahoma also has a wampus cat (Atoka) and it is a two headed fictional cat.

Delta State Univ. FIGHTING OKRA
I'm graduating from the Evergreen State College where we're proud to be called GEO DUCKS. Our mascot looks like a big pecker. I hate it with all my heart.

I believe their is a team with the nickname "Nimrods" in Upper Michigan? They were on ESPN.
Also, a high school in Alaska has a nickname "Halfbreeds". It is a picture of an Eskimo women looking adoringly into the eyes of a white man!

From Texas - The Mesquite Skeeters! We used to have a big (6 foot) fiberglass mosquito mounted on a maroon and white trailer at all home games. Weird.
Also I find it odd that OU uses Sooner - sooners were people who cheated during the land rush and left sooner than they were supposed to.
