We play at 1pm this comming sat. Since it is the first time the team has advanced this far in the playoffs and we also play basically on our home field, we were thinking of have a team breakfast and leaving for the game together(unique situation with our home field not being our own field). I was wondering what any of you have served at such a thing if you have done it in the past and what kind of time frame you used. Thanks

A lot of colleges take their kids to a buffet the morning of games (or the campus cafeteria). If that isn't possibly, meats, eggs, and fruits are probably a pretty safe bet.

NO MEAT ! Protein weighs you down. Eat fruit, simple carbs (sugars) and breads. CARBS are a good pre game meal. My father runs marathons and they actually drink a small cup of beer (TONS of carbs) before each race granted this would be a bad idea for high school kids.

If you play at 1pm what time are you looking at eating breakfast? If you eat by 8am pretty much anything would be okay 4-5 hours is enough time to digest it (emphasize a good well rounded meal the night before). I'd also plan on a light snack of some type a couple of hours before the game- some good complex carbs here. I'd be careful about altering the players normal eating routine to much that can cause problems in and of itself.

whatever you do, do not eat dairy. Milk takes longer than any other food to be digested.

I agree with AJ about the timing of the meal. I would want them in by 8 or 8:30 to eat. My fear with weekend games and high school kids is that if you tell them to be in the locker room by 11:00 or whenever, some of them are going to want to wake up 15 minutes before that. I would want to make sure that they aren't getting into a weekend sleep routine. This is a lot easier to regulate during the week when they have to be up for school anyways.

I too have been thinking about this pregame meal thing. It seems like the right idea, get everyone together and have a big "family meal"
