We were 7 - 0, rocking and rolling along, then we had five starters go out with season ending injuries in 1 game. This is the first time in 5 years that we won't be in the playoffs and I'm not sure what to do with myself.

What kind of jacked up system doesn't get you in the playoffs at 8-2?

Back in 99' a team in Connecticut went undefeated at 11-0 and didn't make the playoffs. It's an extremely rare case, but it happens. CT uses a point system depending on the Class of the teams you play. Only 8 teams from each class make the playoffs. It can happen where more than 8 teams from one class are undefeated. Sometimes because of the points a team with a worse record can make the playoffs also.

Who determines the points? Some kind of committee?

No. It's all set up a head of time. It goes by how many wins the team you beat ends up with at the end and what class they were in. I can look it up to get the exact numbers, but it's something like 5 pts per win of your opponent, then multiply that by how many classes higher than you. This isn't exactly how it works, but it's close. There's 4 classes...S, M, L, LL. About 35 teams in each, 8 make each playoffs. It's actually a pretty good system for the most part.

In our division only top two teams from each district make the playoffs. Both of our losses happened to be during district play.

Is it kinda of like the Harbin points system like they use in Ohio?

Collect equipment, plan the banquet, schedule off-season lifting/work outs & plan for next season...

We missed the playoffs at 8-2 when I was a senior. League champs get an auto bid. There were two spots left in the bracket and the team that beat us got one of em. What are you gonna do? DI was stacked that year up here. Would've been the 8th seed, the sacrificial lamb at the altar of De La Salle.

Is it kinda of like the Harbin points system like they use in Ohio? In my opinion the best system Ive come across for determining playoff worthy teams and matchups.

Points are an effective way to determine playoffs. I was kept from the playoffs twice being the 17 seed, both times the 16 seed was the same team. That 16 seed played in a much weaker division than mine and had one more victory. So one year by luck our schedule got a little tougher and my team matured (the first two years my main players were sophomores and juniors) and we made the playoffs at a higher seed. Now that I'm not there anymore, that school that kept us out is now on that schools schedule and my old school beats them soundly. Now, I don't know if I would have beaten them during those two years but we definitely would've been a more formidable opponent and the outcome may have been different. I tried not to think about that to much (but it was hard)and focused more on creating our own destine.
