So what do you do about practice uniform cleanliness? Do you...
1. Wash the team's practice uniforms yourselves.
2. Require the players to wash them, either at school or home.
3. Don't care if their uniforms are clean or not.

No, because it has not been a problem. I am sure that in the past I have had a kid that didn't get his stuff washed. Just give him a 100 yard bear crawl the next day after you warn him. That usually fixes things. Also, check with him. You never know, he might not have access to a washer like we do. Who knows? Just let him use the school washer if it is a problem.

I have seen a head coach take a load or two of uniforms home every night. Kids that didn't have access were taken care of. Sometimes he did them at school, sometimes he took them home.

Our weight training coach washes practice equipment every day. He changes loads between classes for the most part and has some kids that help. At my previous school, we washed practice gear once a week, the players could take them home in between and wash if they so chose.

I don't really care either way. If the kid's stuff gets bad enough, just tell him to wash it at home. Odds are good that of he smells terrible then your team is already hassling him to wash his stuff too. I don't want to be the coach making guys run wind sprints because their jersey smells bad.

I wash all of my players practice cloth and workout clothes every day. Makes it easy and kids don't forget to wash it or even worse leave it at home.

For those that say, I don't care. I guess you never had to deal with a staff outbreak. It is not worth taking a chance, everyone should be clean every day.

I think you meant "staph" outbreak, unless your coaches are somehow contagious...

I remind our kids to take care of all their equipment after each game.
Once in awhile you get a kid who seems to take great pleasure in how bad his practice stuff gets. Usually only takes referring to him as "Pigpen" once or twice to get him to "clean up his act."
If a kid didn't have access-had a problem, we have washer-dryer in coaches' locker room.

We only have two padded practices a week, Tuesday and Wednesday. That gives them plenty of time to get their stuff washed. We've never had a kid who couldn't get it done. Do we have kids forget their stuff sometimes? Sure. We lend them one, run them as a reminder, and that's that. It's a lot easier than doing all of their laundry.

Thursday all cloth goes home (pants, jerseys, girdles, workout tshirt/shorts), any cloth left in locker kid owes "quality time" on Monday. Girdles will have to be back on Friday morning because we load up bags etc... for the game in our "0" hour Friday mornings. This has never been an issue and every year week one some freshmen have to learn a lesson but it is taken care of after that. We dont have a washer/dryer (don't ask bc Ive tried) so we put it on the kids.

I have been on a staff where we washed all cloth and we had 145 players. Each coach had 1 week (10 coaches) of washing and drying. It took a few hours to wash the lot. Where I am at now we only have 30 players and I can wash the clothes before I leave at night, and come back and dry them in the morning in one load. It literally takes me seconds... Many of the times I have all the kids just put there dirties on their loop and throw it straight into the washing machine. I fill it up with detergent and I'm done.

We will wash any kids stuff any night that they put it inside the washing machine after practice. We require them all to turn it in at the end of the week. Takes 30 min to wash and an hour to dry. Start it washing before we leave, throw it in the dryer as we walk out the door. Its ready to roll the next morning.

We make them take their cloth home every Wednesday.
Players wipe down their helmet and shoulder pads twice a week with lysol wipes.
A position group vacuums (yes, our locker room has friggin carpet) every day.
A position group washes our water bottles every day (dish soap).
I wash jerseys with the student assistant night of game, pants/belts with assistants the next morning during film.
A position group wipes down weight benches every day with lysol wipes.
We had 1 kid with a rash that they thought was MERSA and ever since I've been anal retentive.
