Men,
We are a flexbone team that has to cut block a lot in the regular season. We are doing our own team camp Mon-Thurs and then on Friday a coach asked us to join them for a little scrimmage. Would it be bush league for my kids to cut block in a scrimmage as much as we do in games? I know the team we are scrimmaging plays a team in the regular season who does the exact same thing as we do. I could also do what we do in practice and have my kids give their kids a head ups when cut blocking. Any thought? I don't want to start any bad beef, but cut blocking is part of our execution.

I would just reach out to the coach early in the week and see if they are OK with it. That way they can work some cut protection during the week and be ready for Friday. Will give your guys a better look at it too.
Alex Gibbs would say, "If you tackle, I cut"

I'd say let him know about it but it's pretty much standard operation that cutting is acceptable on a team v team scrimmage setting in our area.

Something we used to do was have the OL tell the DL before the play "I'm going to cut you," the they would go through the motions. We'd work cutting and defeating cuts during indy.

We wouldn't . Was at a 14 team camp 2 weeks ago and the 2nd rule in the coachs meeting was no cutting. I figure a team is doing us a favor by scrimmage ng I'd give them the same Consideration and regard for saftey that I'd give my own defense. Now if they want to cut first that's another story.

Call their coach and ask for his opinion
If he wants his kids to work against it now awesome
If not then lay off on the cuts

Giving them a heads up would be a courteous thing to do.
But do what you are going to do. A cut block is a legal block in football. You need to work on the block and they should work on defending against it.

If so it shouldn't be an issue to work out. We often ise quick whistles on QBs in our scrimmages as well as avoiding cutting (I have a pretty good relationship with all the staffs we scrimmage). That said it is a legal block. Do what you need to do.

Any body ever had someone hurt from a legal cut block?
Not talking about a chop block. I have cut in games and practices for twenty years with no injuries. Of coures anything can happen and it could happen today. I am just curious of everyone else.

Talk with their coach. If he's cool with it, then cut. If not, then don't.

If it's a fully padded scrimmage we're cutting. I don't know why you wouldn't. It's not illegal and, done properly, isn't especially dangerous.

Never seen somebody get hurt by a legal cut block. I'd probably ask the opposing coach before hand because of the stigma that seems to follow it and I wouldn't want their players or coaches to get all bent out of shape over it and have the thing devolve into something less productive than it should be.
