I got into an interesting conversation with a friend of mine tonight. The topic that came up was, how long does a head coach need to be at a program before they actively seek another job. I guess the answer would change depending on the level coached, but my gut feeling was for a "normal" situation anything under 3 years might not look great. What are your guys thoughts on this?

It has always been my goal to secure a Texas HS 2-4A job and stay until they kick me out or I build a dynasty. Once I get a job like that, I won't actively seek any others, I will be too busy working on the one I am in.

I would have to say that three years is about right for the minimum. Anything less and you haven't done a whole lot to establish much there. Assuming this is HS, anything less than three years and you haven't even seen your first freshman class take the field on friday nights.
