I am a new HC. We have a large number of old helmets that can no longer be used. What should I do with them? I know that in years past we have taken a sledgehammer to them before tossing in the dumpster. Not really feeling the sledgehammer this time. Thoughts?

You can save them. Paint them te color of teams you beat and hang them with scores and players of the game on them.

What I do with them, I have them cleaned up. Then I would give them to my ag teacher. He cuts them in half, then I get 1 x 10 board. Stain the board, then glue them to the board, get a brass plate made with seniors name on it and jersey number. Hand them out to the seniors on awards night. Hardly costs anything. The brass plates will cost 2-4 dollars each. The wood will cost you something, but you might be able to get that for nothing if the ag teacher or your industrial art teacher is looking for projects for their students.

Seen people drill a hole in the top and stick lamp post through them and sell them.
I like the idea above.

Take the "guts" out of them for liability's sake.
Then, spread them around town as gifts to all your supporters so that whenever someone walks into a business, they see your team's helmet. Business owners go nuts for them.

I have my teams that win conference championships sign them and they make a cool keepsake for me to keep in my classroom. If we ever go deeper than the quarterfinals I'll probably have the kids sign them and sell them. A team I know that won state made 1-2k on some they auctioned at a fundraiser from their championship season.

Do the lamp idea and do that for sr gift at end of year. My brother in law has one and I think it's a million times better than some stupid plaque that is usually given. Like the paint opponent team color idea too.

We put our stickers on them like normal and sell them at games. $25-30 a helmet. Its better than throwing them in the trash.

We took the "guts" out of them, shined them up, and presented them to our seniors on awards night!

At my first coaching stop we did the cut them in half and put on a plaque deal... did one and had them painted and got the stickers from all of the colleges that kids went to and played.
You can actually see them in that movie the Long Shots with Ice Cube.

A lot of my old buddies ask me to snag them helmets and stuff all the time. If I had any to sell, I could've easily made a few hundred bucks by now.
