We recently rebranded our Knights logo and plan to give every kid in school a shirt with the new logo and an athletic department "motto"
I am looking for ideas, suggestions, resources, etc to find something to put below the logo...
some info:
We are the Fighting Knights
Columbia blue is our primary color
Any thoughts would be helpful

Whatever you do, avoid the 'knight time' play on words. No one likes that.

#knightmade
The kids love the # thing. The University of Missouri's marketing department has put Mizzou Made on everything and it's really big here in central Mo.

Heard something Sunday at Church that just hit me. Preacher was talking about our "fix it now/microwave" society, and talking about how the Egyptians enslaved the Israelites for 400 years & the story of how they were set free.
....anyway, he got to talking about how they had to go through the desert and sea to get back to Jerusalem and that when the Israelites were freed, they still had to face going through the desert(s) & he said...."No paradise w/out the Desert".
Right now..we are coming off a horrendous year. Went O'fer...so, it got me thinking "No Paradise w/out the Desert". (Desert obviously being this past year, and truth be told, next year won't be much..if any, better, but we dang sure aren't letting them know that).
Ehhhhhh?!?!? Yay, Nay?

In my opinion, you as a coach know your players and your needs more than anyone else.
If you feel the message is on par with what you guys are needing to hear, and the kids respond to it, then I say you have hit the proverbial nail on the head.
Slogans are not once size fits all imo.

For the record, I'm a less is more type myself..something basic, but ^^^ has stuck with me for some reason. Last year we played our Week 1 game at 1pm. It was 100 with dewpoints in the 70s at kickoff. After we won I told the kids "Sometimes, you have to go through hell to get to heaven." For some reason, I heard that from them quite a bit last year. Your story just reminded me of that.

To quote Batman..."The knight is darkest before the dawn" funny you bring this up - that line has been abused by us and our rivals - the DONS after ever Knight is a Don after every Don comes a Knight etc...

Another good one for the theme of "full commitment to our new direction" that we had at a previous school I was at was "Burn the Ships" in reference to Cortez who burned his ships fearing mutiny by his men wanting to return to Europe, thereby forcing them to stay the course of exploring the New World. We had a bon fire at mini camp where kids came up and through in sticks they had picked up, symbolizing their commitment to staying the course. Went from 2-8 to 8-4 and 2nd round of the playoffs.

Don't bother with a motto.
Just put your your mascot and colors on the gear and call it good. Mottoes are overrated; simplicity speaks volumes.

Burn the ships is a Mike Leach motto!
There is a school in our area called Fairfield Union and the legend is they were once the Charging Knights until someone put their initials on a hat!

Motto's/Slogans are sometimes so tricky. Kids these days can take what you say and make a slogan/saying out of it. 2 years ago our HC told the kids a story about being at a party and seeing the hot girl but not being confident enough to ask her out but later seeing a douchebag going out with her because he had confidence. The goal of the story was to get them to understand that some people where not stepping up to the plate when it was there time and they let other people not as good as them take their spot. The kids took this and for the breakdown before we went to stretch they broke it down on "hot chicks and parties". have to be careful what you say cause that stuck with them all season.

We went with Believe in Black this year as it is one of our primary colors. The school adopted the motto and we have really branded it.

Actually thought I would contribute lol. I do like #blueblooded although we have to be careful with stuff like that in the area we work.
Acta non verba: Action, not words.
Live for honor, die for glory.
