Help me out. When a player is "invited" to a college camp, does this mean bring your wallet, or it is free for this player of interest?

Coach it would be an NCAA violation to allow a player to attend the college camp for free. An amount must be paid to the camp in order to attend. If it is a 4 day camp they will allow players to attend for a day and pro-rate it. There are many camps now that are affordable with the "rising senior" and sattelite camps the colleges now are having.

My experience is unless a coach specifically tells the HS HC or the kid we would like to see you at a camp then it is a money grab. They must charge according to rules.
That being said if the kid is looking to improve and gain skill and knowledge then the college coaches do coach their tails off and work the kids.
So I guess it depends on what the kid is after. If it is exposure then the one day camps will help if he can test in the tangible result drills like the 40 and such. That being said if he wasn't invited they won't pay any attention unless the kid blows those kind of drills out of the water.
Then when they pad up they will really work those kids who they invited personally and those who look and test the part against each other. They like to put stress on those kids and find about in person if they are coachable and how tough they are.

Most schools have these 1 day camps for around $30 or so. Coaches will usually let someone (kid or coach) know that they want them to come. We've got a kid now who is a 2016 kid, getting a lot of attention this spring, several schools have requested him for camps. If you feel like the kid is a legit prospect try to let a coach know he's going to attend the camp and let them see his hudl. At least he might not get lost in the wash.

Agree with the above.
1) Kids have to pay 2) Only worth it for "exposure" if it's a personal invite from the coach
Remember, for 2015's, every coach in the country can pick up the phone and call him right now until May 31st since we are in the Spring Eval Period.
I usually tell guys, no phone call/visit by coach to the HS (even that is a gray area), then don't go.
