What are some of the ways that you guys promote competition in your program? Do you have some favorite drills? An offseason program, weird event or events? Anything that you feel unleashes the competitive side in your athletes is appreciated.
In our program we do a draft to select your platoon for the summer. Over the course of the summer they gain points for attendance and also the results from special team building events that we have each Friday. We work with the army to use their facilities and resources. They might have some amazing race type of event that is physical, but also challenges them mentally. We may go run through an an obstacle course for time.
Our kids favorite event is when we go a team camp at a small college. One of the head coaches from a team that we scrimmage used to be on our staff. Both of our teams meet up at a large outdoor paintball facility and we go at it for 4 hrs. It's awesome time, and we score it to count for their point total for the end of the summer. It makes the games that much more intense and fun.

Every so often during the season, we will give the kids a day off of conditioning at the end of practice and we will have a tire tug of war. We get the whole team to circle up and choose two kids, same ability, and we have a trie tug of war. We use a pretty thick BMX type tire and have both kids grab the tire with both hands and they try to pull each other out of the circle. If a kid lets go, he loses. It's pretty cool and the kids really get some intense battles going.
