Hi guys I am curious to hear your thoughts on practice planning: - Do you run Offense and Defense scout on each day
- Do you have dedicated Offence days and dedicated Defense days?
- Why do you approach it the way that you do?

We run offense and defense every day. Both team and Indy. We do this because the kids need reps at skills every day.

We have a split practice. We do not have a JV staff but we only coach 1 side of the ball. So OL coach coaches varsity and JV OL. We while varsity does offense, JVs do defense and vice versa. We have indy and team every day as well as usually a couple of group periods like inside run, 7 on 7, stunts, or blitz pickup.

Tuesday- Offense Wednesday- Defense
We have 45 kids 9-12 grade and practices MUST be 1 1/2 to 2 hours as we bring kids together from 3 different schools.
Why that way? I don't really know. I guess because I like to get all of our work in in one day.

Tuesday: Offense indy and group Wednesday: Defense indy and group. We do both during team.
Used to do both each day but we felt rushed in indy and group so went to one day for each.

Monday - Film and Walk Tuesday - Offense (indi/group) Wednesday - Defense (indi/group) Thursday - Team O / Group and Team D Friday - Game Jog Through Saturday - Game
I like having specific days for each because I get to work indi and group for a long time. I always played for coaches that did it this way so it just feels natural. Another big reason I like it this way is because of OCs who always need to run "one more play" and fifteen minutes later we are still doing offense.

Yes
No (emphasize one but do both)
Get more reps, allows us to do more - be better prepared.

1. No. 2. Offense is on Tuesday, defense on Wednesday. We do have a 10 minute period or the opposite side each day, 3. We feel that we can get more in-depth and aren't as rushed. I have to disagree with those who say that you get more reps by doing each both days. You have the same amount of time and sme number of reps. They're just split up

We split each day about 50/50. Our offense got more time because I needed it and the DC didn't fell he need the same amount of time.
Monday through Wednesday:
Indy D - 10 Mins Group D - 10 Mins (Skelly, Inside, tackling curcuit, etc) Team D - 25 Mins
Indy O - 10 Mins Group O - 10 Mins (Skelly, Inside, team screen, etc) Group O - 10 Mins (Skelly, Inside, team screen, etc) Team O - 25
Add in pre-practice, form and flex, 2 specials teams, and conditioning we were around 2:30 hours.
Thursday we followed a script to make sure everything gets covered again. (Pre Pratice, Form and Flex, Kick Return, Team O, PAT, Kick Off, Team D, Punt Return, Team O, Punt, Team D, 2 Min O)
We have tried doing D on one day and O on the other but it seems the practice seems very long and slow. Breaking up the practice into smaller segments makes the practice pace quicker which helps keep the players focus.

We do offense & defense each day. Here is a typical schedule W/O Specials involved. We'll usually have a 5-10 min circuit of some type of tackling or turnovers on Monday & Tuesday also.
Monday: O Indy - 15m O Group - 20m Team O - 20m D Indy - 15m D Team - 20m
Tuesday: D Indy - 15m D Group - 20m Team D- 20m O Indy - 15m Team O -20
Wednesday: We work nothing but specials, team O & team D. Go through all game situations etc…
Thursday: Walk thru

Our 1st Defense gets 48 reps against Scout Team Offense plus eight on Goalline a week.
We get one day on Base defense, another on Plan B and stunts, another on Blitzes (plus review on Thursday).
That would be impossible to do if we did Defense only one day a week.
