Half sleeves.. yes.. who cares.. At practice i dont regulate the guys too much unless it intereferes with safety and is not a distraction. everyone to be the same for games.. they will have diffdrent color long sleeves but as long as they were team color it was good.. i delegated this part to assistants this past year tho to be honest. Im not tryin to be fashion police

Started not caring and it just became too much. HC says next season nobody wears anything unless cleared by him. I hate all that stuff too. It's just kids being individuals. But, as much as I hate dealing with that attitude, I hate dealing with kids and parents even more over this kind of stuff. Had a kid threaten to sue because he wanted to wear pink gloves the whole season. It was a ridiculous hassle. Never again.

No elbow or one armed sleeves unless medically prescribed by our team doc.
Black white or team color gloves and long sleeves.
We have Nike set up a team store to offer nice stuff. If kids want something cool or individualized for under their unis then we have it pre-approved that way. We don't have the hassle. We have the under gear picked for them. If they can't afford or chose not to see previous rule.
Solid black or white socks. Varsity has team socks for games. The socks became a big deal when Nike and Adidas started making all the crazy socks a few years back.
We never used to care but as all the crazy color gear became more popular we saw our team starting to appear very individualistic and kind of rag tag ish. We fight image issues as it is. In order to address the individuality and support team concept we started regulating. All rules apply to practice camps 7 on 7 and games.

We have really nice 7 on 7 gear and uni's and tell the kids that they are well represented by their team uniform.

i won't let kids wear gloves in practice, other than that i don't care what they wear in practice as long as they're safe. as for games, it's team color socks and under garments, black/white shoes, no visors (unless necessary, doctor's note required), no half sleeves, etc. had kids wanting to wear pink also, i nixed that because it didn't go with our team concept and considering i had the kids and parents sign forms before the season that said they would abide by all of these dress codes, they didn't have a leg to stand on when they tried to fight it.

Jewelry...absolutely not all the other stuff (that falls under "legal" to wear)...I dont stress too much. Only thing I give caution about is visors, never see them work out well.
They are given game socks they have to wear those.
If they are going to wear it in a game they have to wear it in practice all week. Not gonna allow a "cowboy collar" to be attached the day of a game then have a kid not be able to perform bc he's not used to it.
all gloves etc have to be team color. Never had much of a problem with "half sleeve" bc I will make fun of them and so will the rest of our team if someone thinks that actually looks good.

Big thing going on for us is the socks and sleeves. Now that they came out with superhero themed cleats it's all over. One of our guys got Superman cleats. You're a dang OL, son! Maybe I'm just becoming old, grouchy coach from the Classifying Coaches post.

If it legal they can wear it. But, if you are going to wear it on game day wear it in practice.

Kids are allowed to wear "legal & approved" articles. With that being said, they are to be in uniform. Same socks, and I even try same color shoes. Kids need to be able to have a little bit of individualism. As long as they are dedicated and put the team first. I am not a stickler for matching gloves, etc.

Like others have said, If they are going to wear it on game day, they are going to wear it during practice. Cowboy collars (seems to be fading out in popularity here) use to be the big problem. That is a piece of equipment that the kid really has to get use to during the week.

Some of them look like idiots, but I try to follow Ara Parseghian's approach on the matter. Cowboy collars are no longer fashionable. The only hassle is some guys insist on all kinds of visors and they're takin them off and on all the time. A couple guys have tinted visors just to wear during practice. If they don't interfere with practice We aren't going to stress about it.

As a former player I believe in the notion that if you look good you play good. With that being said though, I believe the kids nowadays can go above and beyond with some of the things they will try to wear on the field if you let them get away with it. Earrings and other jewelry are a big no-no in my book. One other thing is wearing pink.....I have an aunt with breast cancer so I support the movement totally....when it's time. I have seen kids trying to go "Pink Out" for the second or third game of the season. And it's not even to support the cause, but rather to just be flashy or stand out. I'll also end on this note, if you don't wear it during the week, don't wear it on Fridays...cause oftentimes it takes a while to break in new equipment I.E. cleats especially

i won't let kids wear gloves in practice Coach, Is this so that on game day it's that much easier to catch with gloves?

i won't let kids wear gloves in practice Coach, Is this so that on game day it's that much easier to catch with gloves? That's exactly why. If they can catch the ball without them, then they certainly will catch the ball with them.

I don't think that makes a lot of sense to me. Anything you wear that changes your ability to perform a football task should be worn during all football skills drills. Wearing gloves changes the way the ball feels in your hands. Why wouldn't you want to get acclimated to that in practice?

I want to make things more difficult for them in practice so that they can perform better in the games. Catching a ball w/o gloves is more difficult than catching a ball with gloves, therefore they practice without gloves and can wear them in games. Whether it's right or wrong, it's how I do it and have done it because I believe in it.

That said, I had never worn a pair of contemporary receiver gloves until last November when a bunch of old, balding, fat dudes like myself lined up for our "Turkey Bowl." After trying them on and playing, all I could think of was "how could a kid NOT catch a ball wearing these?" Seems like all you have to do is stick your hand out there and the ball would stick to it. Newt's approach now makes sense to me.

Jewlery...in particular Ear Rings...HELL NO. Only reason? In college...one of my buddies (WR) had his in, got STUCK and the back of his ear ring went into his neck and he bled like crazy (the sweat didn't help matters, but we all thought his neck had been slashed). Not that it was going to kill him, but that scared the he11 out of us.
Doo-Rags (so long as they aren't the long ones flowing out the back) and half sleeves, who cares.

The only problem I ever had w/ what guys would wear during practice was when they would play around w/ these items. For instance, a lot of the WRs would take their gloves off during certain drills, and leave them lying on the field. The gloves can get in the way of other guys running drills, plus, when the WRs want to put them back on, they have to run across the field to where they left them, thus holding up the drill that they're supposed to be running. I always wished the HC would've made a rule that basically stated, 'You're welcome to wear what you want during practice, but you must wear it during the entire practice. If you can't do that, leave it in the lockerroom.'
