We are looking at scoring practice this next season. We've decided to make the move to split our kids, so this really gives us the opportunity to clearly identify who won or lost the day...offense or defense. We've got to create more competition and we really feel the need within our program right now to enforce the idea that losing is bad and their is a consequence for it.
Any of you guys out their do this? I know coachplaa does and I've sent him a message, but I would love to hear from more than one source what they do.

We do from time to time.
You need to make sure your team period is structured appropriately then. Have coaches or managers spot the first downs, keep track of down and distance and respot the ball after 4th down.
As a bitter defensive coach, Nothing would get me going more when the offense had 30 plus plays and over half of them were for negative gain. And the offense still has a chance to say they won because no one was keeping track of down and distance or the ball would magically be respotted to the LOS before the sack.

We currently only score 7 on 7. I'm not sure on the complete structure of the point system but I can find out if you would like. I coach the OL so I dont have any contact with that drill during practice.

We have different competition games during team and 7 on 7 that we have points and scores for. Does make drills better if there are points of some kind involved
