Up in Wisconsin we do not have spring ball. Our state association gives us 4 "contact" days that must be used after the last day of school but before July 31. The contact days usually are used by most coaches for drills, etc. I have not heard of anybody being allowed full pads.
Now my question. A debate has come up as to whether or not we here in Wisconsin are "missing out" becasue we DON'T have a true spring ball. The WIAA argues that this would affect spring sports. What do you guys think based on your own state rules? Does your spring ball affect other sports?
How long is your spring ball period?
Could you see your program develop just as well without it?
Thanks in advance.

In Oklahoma we are giver 10 days of full pads full contact practice. The conditions are that it must start after the last state championship for all spring sports has been decided. It also must last only "1 hour". Last spring was the first time it was allowed before school was over. We are also allowed no more that 2 team camps and all camps must be completed before July 15th.

This is in the other post but Florida gives a total of 20 days during the month of May. First 3 days must be helmets and shorts and then anything goes. You are also allowed to have a game, scrimmage, or jamboree.
Track season is wrapped up the last weekend in April and Baseball Playoffs are usually done after the first week in May. Florida has the luxury of better weather in January and February when baseball and track practice begins so those seasons can end earlier. This probably isn't possible in Wisconsin - Anyone for a Track Meet this week (our first one is tomorrow!)

In North Carolina we have an unlimited number of days for skill development in the spring. You can have up to 22 kids out at a time, and they can wear helmets and shoulder pads, but body to body contact is prohibited.

We can't do spring football either...but for the kids that don't play spring sports, we do playbook, lifting, & teach techniques without equipment, and a lot of chalkboard talk to try and get ahead for the summer.

in texas only the big schools have spring ball, 4a and 5a only. it doesn't effect spring sports that much because in the larger schools most kids only play 1 sport. basketball is over and track is too. it conflicts with baseball, but there are usually there are only a few players that effects and the coaches will work it out (read the football coach gets his kid unless its game day). baseball is mostly over too, the state tourny is the end of may, so most teams are done in early may/late april. the rules say you have 30 days to have 18 practices, most schools start at the first of may so as not to have too many conflicts.
also, not all schools elect to have spring ball. the other half of the rule is that if you have spring ball, you have to start fall camp a week later. teams with no spring start the 1st monday in august, teams with spring ball start the second monday. most schools have it but this allows caoches to make the descision.
bottom line, imo, i think your missing out because it really allows us to get things installed and get a jump on the upcoming season. also allows us to get football back in the mind of these kids and really get them geared up for 7 on 7 and summer lifting/running.
nothing is perfect, but it is as close as it can be in texas.
j/k, maybe!

I'm from Tx when I played I would always miss the first week because of Track regionals. We would miss maybe 5 or 6 guys because of baseball. Baseball coach normally coaches football so it always worked out ok
