Anyone have any details on this like cost, if they'll come to you, etc.?

Like anything else these days it will cost you money. The NFL is all about money. So they decide now to react to the negative publicity football has received lately by stepping forward as the champions of teaching football to our youth? After we have had to suffer through years and years of watching NFL players' futile attempts at tackling? Really? Looks like another money grab to me.
Sorry guys, I don't need the NFL (USA Football) charging me fees to learn how to coach football, coach proper blocking and tackling technique, effective hydration procedures, etc. etc. I've been doing it right for years, and never charged my services to the school, to the players, or the parents. Aside from that most state high school associations already mandate their coaches are required to be certified to coach.
This endeavor may help pre-high school football more than high school football, but I'm still skeptical. On another thread in this forum a lot of coaches voiced their displeasure with the AAU getting involved in football. I see this as an even more serious threat, especially to high school football as we have come to know it.

Our county (and possibly state) are requiring at least 1 coach on each staff to be a certified Heads Up coach. It's become a CYA thing. Just another defense you can make for potential lawsuits regarding concussions and injuries.

Very slowly I notice the Heads Up program adding a little bit more detail to their tackling curricullum and teaching progression.
That being said, I think their existing material is still extremely vague and doesn't address many of the tackling situations that occur in games. For that reason, many coaches (especially at the higher levels) are not 100% on board with the program.

jackedup:
I'm afraid that's exactly what the NFL wants to happen. I was flown out to Dayton to attend the heads up conference a couple years ago. Information was good but not better than Hugh Wyatt's Safer and Surer tackling (I bought it yes but the info is great-it's how we tackle and we were able to win states this year). If they (USA heads up)are charging for it and people are now expecting that certification to be done (more money), it's a huge red flag for me rather than just a humanitarian thing to do for the future of A GREAT GAME. When things "have to happen" and big money is involved, I become a BIG skeptic.

mfjvi: That's exactly what a lot of were saying. It shouldn't cost anything though. I think the state is taking up the cost.

Is there a coaches association or other entity that has its own curriculum?

I think they are headed in the right direction, but your presentation was WAY better than what and how they present their progression. I think it's a step in the right direction, but I'm not paying $25 per coach to do it.

Unless the school makes me I won't pay to be certified to teach a way we already teach. Also, I agree that they don't explain many tackling situations. 220lb RB on 140lb DB, that technique they teach is not safe... From what I have seen they don't address tackles from the side. I get that this is a way to try and prevent lawsuits but its not 100% practical yet.
