I should also say we have the scout offense run the top 5-7 plays we'll see that night during the team D portion and the scout D runs a few of the fronts/stunts we'll likely see in the team O portion.

Read about Coach Kelly from Arkansas. They don't show up to dress out until 6:15. The longer I've been in it the less important I think pre-game is. Coach Kelly mentioned that brain surgeons don't show up an hour before to do an operation and stay quiet and practice their surgeon's skills. I've always kind of wondered why teams showed their plays or at the very least their cadence to the opponents. Same with team defense - why show opponents what you plan on doing versus their man formations/plays.

My college coach said you have to get to the game early so you can worry.

6:15 - 6:25 Specials 6:25 - 6:35 Dynamic Warm-Up 6:35 - 6:40 Passing Line / Indy work for OL 6:40 - 6:45 Indy D / Tackling 6:45 - 6:50 Team O on air 6:50 - 6:55 Locker Room
That's more or less it. We may start 5 minutes earlier if we feel we need more time to get back and forth from the locker room.

I know some people get all tricky, but we're not them. Here's our cadence- Down, Set, Hit.

At home we go down to our practice field it is two blocks away. Out of sight.
That said, 5:45 head to practice field 5:50 do Indy specials 6:00 Indy defense 6:05 defensive alignment
This Is our pride and joy. I you can't line up you can't defend. We spend 20 min reviewing alignment. Blitz walk thrus and when they are off (if motion shift etc...) 6:25 team offense
We go over anything new we may have put in or altered. Also run throw our first drive script. (Actually stuck to it this year, worthy of a whole different thread)
6:35 KO team one deep one on side 6:36 return team ( two guts. One sideline) 6:39 punt team (two deep kicks, two fakes) 6:41 punt return one or two reps. 6:43 huddle, break Down 6:45 realize we only have 7 or 8 min and are two blocks away. Panic and head up. Opposing team sees us get on field. Run one play. Kick one field goal and do coin Toss

Are you guys actually hitting in pregame? Never seen anyone go beyond thud or stuff on air . We don't take kids to the ground, but we get after it. Probably 80-95%. We hit all the time so it's not really that big of a deal for our kids.

Are you guys actually hitting in pregame? Never seen anyone go beyond thud or stuff on air . Coach about 3 years ago we inherited a program that had been 0-20 the 2 previous years. Actually had a 26 game losing streak going into the season. We had a good pre-season with them gaining some confidence in scrimmages. The first game we felt like they needed something to get them pumped up. So after Team Offense we called them all to the 25yd line in the middle of the field circled up and did the old youth football drill where two guys lay on their backs, one gets the ball and they get up fast and get after it. They got absolutely pumped and started enjoying it. We won 44-0, not necessarily because we did that drill, but ever since then it has become a part of pre-game for the last 3 years. So yes we do hit. We whistle once a wrap and tackle is made or momentum is completely stopped, but its all full speed.

I do an angle tackle drill full speed with my linebackers. If someone doesn't go down we aren't mentally in it. 5 years of this never an injury. It Is very structured. About 3 yards apart. Hard to get to full speed but the wrap and drive is decent.
Seniors like this freshmen don't care for it

Same with team defense - why show opponents what you plan on doing versus their man formations/plays. I read about this as well and was really intrigued by it. We have always believed in showing up two hours early for a game, walking the field, if no one's around yet, a quick walkthrough, then tape and wait in the locker room. Our actual time warming up out on the field is actually pretty short. The specialties come out at 5:55 and the rest at 6:10 and we head back in at 6:45. I guess it would just take being more efficient to apply what Coach Kelly does to what we do. The only thing I wonder about is long trips where we are traveling over 2 hours to get to a game. We always have several of these a year and leaving early helps with reducing the variables that might come into play such as getting lost, bus breaking down, etc. Also, I my feeling would be you need additional time to stretch, walk around, etc to loosen up after being on a bus for 2+ hours. I don't know if the super short warm up with provide the same results after a 2.5 hour bus ride on a non-air conditioned bus versus a 20 min trip across town.
