Getting ready to head out to UT tomorrow to meet with the staff, watch a little spring ball, and most importantly to hunker down and plan out the coming year with our staff. This is something we do each year to learn a little, but most importantly to set up 'The Plan'. Topics we will work on include:
-Planning our Breakfast of Champions pre-spring practice (similar to Mat Drills that many colleges do) -address any personnel issues (mainly JV/Fr kids that we need to place to help us next year) -review last season's film -plan and prepare for the coming season's opponents -have a little coaching camaraderie
My questions for the group: -Does your staff do something like this, if so what is your objective(s)? -What staff/team issues do you address? -What are some musts sees while I'm in Knoxville? I've never really been to Knoxville.

We used to go up to the UT Clinic and use that time to do kind of what you're talking about. We focused more on our schemes and put together tentative depth charts for the returning players, also set up spring practice schedule and most of the schedule for the rest of the year.
Where are y'all staying, coach? Calhoun's on the River is one of the well known local restaurants. There are 2 basic areas for socializing, the Old City and The Strip. The Strip is on the edge of campus and is populated by the college kids, the Old City is on the other side of downtown. Gotta go by the Sunsphere and see it, I guess.

We're staying about 15 minutes out east right at exit 398 on I40. I'll keep Calhoun's in mind

You're staying about 10 miles from my place. You're also not far from Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge if you want to go there and do some of the touristy stuff (Dollywood, shop at Bass Pro Shop, eat/drink at Smoky Mountain Brewery, or see the dinner shows, Muscle Car Museum, Ripley's Aquarium, etc.). That stuff's all about 35 minutes into Gatlinburg from 398, depending on traffic. Just take exit 407 and follow that road. I *think* they're still doing teacher appreciation days down there, so you might get in free or really cheap to a lot of that stuff if you teach and have your work ID, but you should probably cal ahead to make sure first. Knoxville is cool. Calhoun's is pretty good, but personally I'd recommend the Downtown Brewery on Gay St. Good food, good beer. It's about a block from the Old City. Aside from that, I'm not sure what you're into. Here are some local sites to check out for nightlife and such. www.metropulse.comwww.knoxcomedy.comThere's also Side Splitter's comedy club off the Cedar Bluff exit, which sometimes gets some pretty big names to come through. This weekend it's Carlos Mencia. Feel free to pm me for my phone number if you need help getting around.
