For those of you that run a youth camp in the summer, when do you hold it? Our basketball team has done it forever so they have the first week of summer booked.

We hold ours on Monday nights in July. 1 hour per group, usually 2 groups. We chose this time because there was nothing else going on and it to worked for families.

Our 3 day (M,T,W) youth fundamental camp (3:30 - 6:00) is always the second week of summer break for grades 3-8 ... combine the 3rd through 5th graders and the 6th through 8th graders. We end each day with a game of ultimate football and on the last day of camp we conduct a punt, pass and kick contest, select hustle award winners (all contest winners get a gift card from Dicks Sporting Goods) and then finish with a guest speaker. Camp Ts are included in the cost and we average between 120-130 campers each year. Coaches include youth and hs staff along with current and former players of the program.

We do ours the 3rd week in June since we have a mandatory dead period the last week of June and first week of July. Usually M,T,W,Th from 9 to 12. Lots of fundamentals, Punt Pass and Kick Contest, timed 40s, flag football, and on the last day we do pizza and drinks and rewards. Kids get a t-shirt.

For the last 3 years, we have done a short camp (one and a half hours to 2 hours) the last week of school immediately after school releases for the day. Now, we are a small, rural school with our HS,JH, and elementary buildings connected, but it has worked very well for us. We start our camp about 3:45 and run it until 5:15. This allows us to get the kids here (we meet with them in the cafeteria and walk them over to our practice field), the parents have time to get the kids after getting off work, AND we get the kids before they play in their baseball games for the evening. We do offense on night 1, defense on night 2, and have our competitions on night 3. Kids really seem to love it.

We do a youth camp in coordination with basketball. We go 3 days from 9-noon total with two separate groups; grades 3-5 and grades 6-8. We have one group from 9-10:30 while basketball usually has the other them we switch at 10:30 with the opposite group. I forgot to mention we usually do this camp the first week of summer after school is done.
Quite a few kids will do both camps basketball and football but not all. We do the usual fundamentals, games, Popsicles, etc. The kids really love tackling dummies so we try to use that time to reinforce safety when tackling.
We've found that more than an hour and a half with one group of kids is too much (especially the young ones)...

We have traditionally done m,t,thr,f the week before our dead period at the end of june. We have done 9am to noon. We get the current varsity kids to help run the drills. We build it up and I know its good for the program but I hate it. I always feel like kindergarten cop or something since I dont usually work with elementary kids.

We do ours the last week of July on M, T, and W from 6-8pm. It's a week I give the HS kids a break from the weight room before 2-a-days start. They are required to coach the camp. Our camp is for grades 1-6. It works out nicely since youth football begins the next week and most all other sports are completed by then. We then finish the camp on Thurs. with a swim party at the local pool. We charge $20 and get each kid a shirt. We get them the same shirts the varsity kids get at the beginning of the summer. It's nice to see those kids wear the shirts at school during the season.

Like NH40 - we are looking at doing the last week of school. Other coaches who do it have told me they get better participation since none of the kids are on vacation and there are less transportation issues. The only thing I think could hold us back is that the youth league baseball coaches may not let their kids do it when they have a game.

We do have kids that will leave early on game nights, but they only miss a half hour or so. Participation has been really good.
