When you gameplan on a weekend, do any of you have a sheet of questions to answer or a template of what you do? I have gameplanned for years as a DC, but as I get ready for an interview, I am struggling on how to explain it in my portfolio. Thanks.

I have started putting one together this offseason. I'd be curious what sheets others use. I'm looking to put one together for each position coach to complete as they watch film that we can merge to put our scouting report together

Does anyone really fill out a 71 page gameplan every week? That's a bit excessive. I like it for ideas, but that's over kill. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using proboards

Yep, it's overkill. I freely and totally admit that. Nobody does the 71-page package, I know that I don't. I try to do the 4-page player version and feel lucky to get that done.
But... If you want to ask questions, there are questions sitting right there. Want to have a way to collect stats on what the offense does, there's a form for that. There are templates for play calls by down/distance. Lots of stuff. Nobody is making anybody use anything. It's nothing more than a place to deviate from.

I think it is difficult, especially at the high school level, to have a cookie-cutter game plan template due to the differences in skill level and schemes you see from year to year. That being said I always ask myself these questions after watching film and deciding how to stop the opposing offense: 1.) Who is their best player and what are their best plays? 2.) Can we stop that player/those plays in our base defense? 3.) If not, how do we need to attack them to try and combat those plays/players? That is at least a starting point no matter when the year.
