Yes its official, school has been cancelled for the day here in western New Mexico. Love it, but also hate the fact that this is going to cause our first basketball game to be cancelled.

I am excited too Saintrad. Over here in Ganado we had our two hour delay turn into a day off.
We did not have much snow, I would guess 4 inches, but it was enough to make the roads a mess. We are in a very rural area with some bad roads that don't get treated or cleared.

Lucky!
The best snow day is the one when they cancel school the night before. Can't wait for that one.

Ocinaz, it's a whole 'nother world up here. I tell people I live in Arizona and immediately they think of Phoenix. They would be very surprised to see how different the north is from the south.

predicting anywhere from 10 to 20 inches of snow in NE Okla by the end of tomarrow. We had 13inches the day my first son was born 3.5yrs ago. . .20 would be the most I hve seen in my life. Anyway. . .I'll be in a duck blind until about noon. . .then I'll be reading and talking football. . .what a great day.

up in wisconsin, we need 12 inches to accumulate between the hours of 2AM and 6AM for a snow day.
Otherwise, less snow doesn't do it, or snowing at other times will ensure it's cleaned up in time for the morning rush.

Old myth...not sure if it's true or not.
But...in public schools, snow days were determined by the COOKS!
If the cooks got to school, and started preparing the food, school was on no matter what.
If the cooks couldn't make it to school, they would cancel.
Believe it, or Not

down here in NM its the buses that determine snow days... if you cant start them to get to the kids on the rez then there is no school.
Oh, by the way, its a balmy 9 degrees outside and the heat in my room has been out for almost 3 weeks now, might be all of 35 or 40 degrees in here

woohoo..yesterday sucked in class... no heat, lost power half way through one class and then the radiator pipes finally broke flooding my room, the down stairs boys locker rooms, and part of the main gym.
This morning, on the golf course right behind the school, we had the pleasure of watching about 100 hot air ballons launch and fly over school, and the pipes on the other side of th main gym finally broke flooding the girls locker room.
just have to love working in a public school

Milwaukee got 10 inches of snow dumped on us beginning at about 4am. This caused our district to cancel school for the day-first time in 9 years. Up here our district almost never closes-my reward? shoveling the crap off my driveway and throwing snowballs at the dog.

We've had snow since september, (alaska) you guys are a little behind the curve. They don't cancel school unless it gets below -50 degrees, and it will. Even then its not canceld, just optional.

what is this closing school. we hardly ever close in wisconsin. if you live outside a city, 4 wheel drive pickup trucks are the choice of people to drive. throw her in 4 wheel drive and whipp some shitties on the way to school. not to mention, it is not uncommon for kids to ride snow mobiles or 4 wheelers to school in certain parts of the state. I personally drive a chevy silverado 4 door pickup truck. I pick people up on the way to work. crewcab comes in handy.
the northern part they typically have the whole week of thankgiving off because everyone is gone deer hunting. yes this is correct deer hunting. in wisconsin, there are 1.75 million deer and around 600,000 hunters opening day. to put it in perspective, the city of milwaukee proper, is around 600,000 people.

We usually have 1 snow day a year in NW Illinois. Had one yesterday. I'm spending today with the TV, a six-pack of Coca-Cola, and a bottle of Uncle Jim Beam!
