When you said TED video I was thinking about the movie "Ted" so I was looking for "Ferk you, Thunda".
The idea of coaching by making sure that everybody know why they're doing things is something that I've believed in for a long time. Yo get a lot better buy-in and players are more likely to do it right when they understand exactly they're trying to do.

I agree with your point fantom. But I was thinking about how this information could be applied at a macro level - like overall program building. I believe that in order to build a program you have to be a bit of a salesman to create buy in (from the players, parents, school staff / admin, community, media, etc.) For example, in the video he explains that conventional marketing for football team would follow a "What, How, Why" model. For example: What: We're going to build a great football team
How: We're going to be disciplined, play an aggressive attack style defense, and use a high powered spread offense.
Why: ?Whereas using the approach that Sinek preaches ("Why, How, What"), the coach's sales pitch might look more like this: WHY: As Coaches, we want to help every one of you grow into confident and successful adults. We want you to live very fulfilling lives, achieve all of your personal goals, and be lifelong learners.
HOW: We're going to teach you how to achieve all of these things through the game of football. Through football, we will inspire you to develop great work ethic, commitment, discipline, and mental toughness.
WHAT: Throughout this PROCESS, we will become a great football TEAM!
I realize that most of you probably believe and try to instill the approach in the second example....but are you marketing / promoting your program this way to athletes and the community?
