Coaches, I am planning our summer schedule and would like to have a practice and then do an overnight camping/team bonding event. We have some nice parks in the local area and I was thinking we could hold a three day camp with the overnight stay at a local park taking place between the second and third practice. I would like any pointers you may have for those who have done this. Any lists that provide what the kids should bring, itinerary, ideas for fun team bonding activities would be much appreciated.

Are you dead set on going to the park?
We have camped at a college (3 day/2 night)and also at school?
We have done several things in the past.
We camped at a small college and held our normal summer practices with meals in between, meetings, and pizza at night. We had players do skits of the coaches, pool time, dodgeball, 3 on 3 tournament, and Madden tourney on xbox. We also invited local teams down for a night of 7 on 7 and a linemen challenge. We incorporated our team concepts and leadership program into nightly meetings with a specific lesson and held a captains selection for our season as well.
When we camped at school we did the same. Practice, 7 on 7, Guest speakers, games (see above), meals by parents, and ended with us going to a 7 on 7. Players brought air matresses and sleeping bags and stayed the wrestling room (small team - 43 players 9-12).
You can do a lot of things. However, we always seem to have some kids sneak out. Liability is always my biggest concern. These camps whether local or away provide a great start to the season in my opinion for players but also coaches.
Depending on what you do: toiletries towel several change of clothes several pairs of socks bathing suit money (snacks or pizza) multiple pairs of shoes cleats equipment linens pillow notebook for meetings sandals for showering

Have you fellas done Team Camps as well? I have thought about doing what you guys have mentioned where it's just our team, but currently we go to a Team Camp. There's pros and cons to both

We take our kids 3 hours from home. We camp in the front yard of a family member. (read: 2 full football fields end to end) There is a pond there for swimming, basketball court, we set up corn hole. We run 3 practices a day at the local HS. Have worked out a deal with them where we use all of their equipment, facilities, weight room, film room. They join us at night for the last session which usually includes some 7 on 7 and lineman challenge stuff. We leave Sunday afternoon and return Thursday afternoon. Food is mostly donated by families. a couple of Senior dads volunteer to cook. We have a huge tent set up to store food under. Has worked great for us.
