Coaches, I am looking for any information on how an in season PE elective system works for you, one where football players would watch film, weight room and such during PE class, and the same for winter and spring sports. I understand states, districts differ in their system requirements but I did get an initial 'ok' from administration to be able to present the idea to them and I need to do some research as to how some districts run this type of program. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do you teach PE? If not, I would be very careful as to how you word things if you discuss it with the PE department. Watching film is not PE.

At the high school where I coached, we were very fortunate to have a great strength coach, and our head coach was in the weight room during the day with the kids. It used to be that they would also go out and watch film on Fridays before a game at our field house, but I think that it really depends on how many assistants you have in the building who can also be available during that time as well.

With all the Common Core stuff, it is very easy to turn watching film into PE. Giving them inquiries about how they played and what they can do to improve their play. Theory on why a play worked/didnt work. You can do more, and its very easy. You can re-interpret PE as learning about physical activities. In my district its slowly moving in that direction anyway.
