So we were supposed to go scout a game lastnight since we play tonight(Sat) but the game was postponed because of a manhunt for one of the FBI's top 10 most wanted in the area. And now the team we play next fri might have a game monday night.

My favorite scouting story was when I was at a brand new school and 5 of us went to scout our opening opponent, an inner city school, at their practice.
We drove my Suburban into the neighborhood and parked across the street from a city park where they were supposed to work out. The area was very "urban" and our vehicle really stuck out but for the most part no one paid too much attention - we did have a few passers by knock on the window and ask if we "worked for Ray-Ray" ?
To make a long stroy short - it took about 1 hour for the full team (kids and coaches) to arrive. It was a very rag tag group and after waiting for what seemed like hours, they finally started to run some plays. All in all it was worthless as a scouting trip but the coaches that were in my Suburban for those 3+ hours have never forgotten it! By the way, we won the game.

We had a saturday game this week so friday night we scouted our rivals who we play this friday. Both schools are inner city and as one of our players put it "they're hella better" which apparently means that they have a lot of gang activity. I thought he was talking about on the field. Anyway, a bunch of our players came to the game as well. During the game, right in front of me and another coach some kid (5'10 160 or so) comes up and starts talking smack to a large group of our Samoan kids. One of our kids (5'11 290) has to be restrained as the kid runs off and calls for his friends just as security arrives to restrain them. One of the security guys is the Uncle of the kid who needs to be restrained and we're asked to leave before the beginning of the third quarter. Great call by him, we find out later that the kid who was talking smack was gang affiliated and after the game, there was a drive by shooting. No one was hit but a woman was trampled and had to be taken to the hospital and needless to say, next week is going to be intense and a little bit scary.
