yeah, not making the playoffs because you missed two blocks and fumbled the ball crossing the goal line.

Up by 20 at the start of the 4th quarter. Losing in the last 20 seconds...but their home clock operator probably saved them over 60 seconds by not starting the clock numerous times.

I feel like it's tough to get beat by any team that you should have beaten regardless of what point in the season it is.

Getting fired after your first year of being head coach after making only the 4th playoff appearance in the past 13 years?

Giving your best fire up speach late in the 4th quarter...seeing the guys light up and become passionate to only give up a 70 yard td the very next play!!
That was the beginning to the end...ended up throwing a pic 6 the very next possession and then they kicked an onside kick and got it!!!

Missing the play-offs because the team you need to win gets in a bench clearing brawl that ends the game which was started by the other team and the powers that be give the win to the team that started the fight because they were leading at the time of the fight!!!

I haven't watched one yet unless we played that team again down the road.

Coach Im with now actually had the players come in to watch film the day after the playoff loss. It was the first time I EVER was a part of anything like that. It really wasn't as bad as I thought (especially considering we lost by 1 in OT). What was weird is that we had to grade players out and fill out critiques for our players; including seniors who would never play football again).

Long, long story. In the end they did me a favor, but man that messed with my head for a long time. It Happens I once got fired after taking over a team on a 32 game losing streak, ending the streak at 44 games one year and then making it to the 3rd round of the playoffs the next year - their best season in over 20 years.

I would also add that the school hasn't made a playoff appearance in the 8 years I've been gone either despite hiring 2 HOF coaches after me. Karma's a female dog.

Another gut-wrenching feeling is seeing the kid who busted his butt to get ready for a season and lead/ captain blow his knee out in the first quarter of the first game of the year.

I don't think losing in the playoffs hurts more than a totally dysfunctional 0-10 season. At least you were good enough to get into the playoffs. 0-10 tears at your soul.

We went 1-8 for the second year in a row. What kills me is that we are actually pretty talented, just not very well coached in some areas. We are doing some house cleaning in terms of staff members, not even sure what my role will be yet. We have so many problems, that its tough knowing where to start, and my resume is updated. Back to back 1 win years (something I have never experienced anywhere) hurts way more than any playoff loss, especially when you know your team should be winning more.

It's a different kind of hurt. At the end of an oh-fer it's almost a relief that it's over. In the playoffs everything just comes to a screeching halt.

Watching the team you beat by 30 in the regular season win the state championship!!! wow. Happened to us in past. Like lighting your hair on fire and putting it out with a hammer Or sticking a javelin in your left eye. Turnovers and penalties and mental mistakes can ruin a good thing. Would like to find a way to coach and run practices to prevent those three as much as possible.

Losing in the playoffs is completely different than going 0-10 or whatever. Both suck, but the pain is different. With that said I would much rather be dealing with the problem of figuring out how to get to that next level than asking myself what I can do to make these kids even want to compete.
Yes, it's that bad. We aren't worried about even getting them to compete. We just want them to want to compete.

Been 1-10 before. Been to playoffs every other year. Never won the big one. Playoff loses suck worse in terms of short term. 1-10 makes you miserable for a long time. Also sucks seeing your best friend be the DC at your arch rival play for a ring after you turned down a job working for him cause you thought you had a better chance winning one where you were at.

yeah, not making the playoffs because you missed two blocks and fumbled the ball crossing the goal line. You coached for the Browns? The worst for me is two things. 1) the wheels just falling off late so the score is no where close to what the game was in a state title game. I've never fully gotten over that title lose. 2) the other team doing exactly what we practiced and went over and for whatever reason they act like they have no clue.

I have to got with the playoff loss over the ofer season.
I have coached some BAAAAD teams and at least you knew when the season would be put out of your misery.
The playoff losses when you should have won, are a knife in the gut. Especially when it is the finals and you dominate the game except the score board.
Then again I have coached on a team that was 2-9 and then made the playoffs (don't ask, stupid qualifying rule) but at least we still knew that week 12 would be our last. Nothing like finishing up the miserable year by gettnig to face the #1 playoff seed.
