What was the most miserable that the weather has made you during a game either as a player or coach? I'm not talking about bad playing conditions. I mean a game when you just felt bad being on the sideline.
Mine is easy and anybody who was there agrees: The 2008 Regional Final at Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA.
The temp won't sound bad to northern guys- it was about 30 degrees (Although I'm originally from Pennsylvania I'll swear that southern cold feels worse that northern cold). Thing is there were 30 mph sustained winds with 50 mph gusts (We had a punt blocked by the wind. Punter hit it well but it went up and came right down behind the LOS). Adding to the fun was the fact that the wind was blowing off of a river and it was a minor league baseball stadium so there were no bleachers blocking it as it came in from the outfield.
Oh yeah, traffic is a problem here and the boss was fanatical about not being late so we left here at 2:00 for a 7:30 game. Got there at 2:30. It wasn't as bad as it could have been since, as a AAA baseball clubhouse, the locker room was pretty comfortable but it did make for a long day.
The next day I stayed in bed all day warming up. Never felt so cold in my life.
I'm sure that many of you have worse stories.

Wasn't cold but we played in a monsoon about 5 years ago. Standing water over my shoes on the field. Qb mishandled a snap and couldn't find it and ball was spinning like a top on his helmet

That is the worst I remember. Plowed the field before warm ups, after warm ups, and at half. Was cold too that night and their was also lightning. And it was a regular season game in October.

(Curuthers , ca) They watered the field accidentally that morning. It was 101 and humid. And I was on top of the press box which had a.metal roof..

I watched the 2001 Alaska State championship game on a VHS tape. It was late October...but it was -5 with a -15 wind chill. I was cold watching that game on film.

We left a literal snowstorm once and drove two hours to play in heat and humidity that would be miserable in July. We had kids dropping like flies, our bench looked like a triage ward of kids with heat this and heat that and minor little injuries that feel worse in the heat. We were getting brutally outplayed but the score stayed close because of a few freak plays, so we couldn't get a running clock. There was a lot of scoring that just dragged out the experience. It took well over four hours. At one point our three players in the backfield combined for about 250 pounds, all shiny new freshmen. And after all that the home team never sent us the film.
At the opposite end we had a game this October that was a hair above freezing with a constant cold rain, two ambulances, and the worst performance of our season. QB started freelancing and throwing to his buddies, star RB dropped the game-winner, defense got torched. We thought we'd never win another game.
I'm never uncomfortable when we're winning or playing well.

In 2010,our first playoff game we had a 45 mph wind going across the field. It was only about 15 degrees out and we struggled with every part of the game. The worst part of the game was I got interviewed after by the opposing teams newspaper. They asked me why we had less than 50 yards passing. Looking back at it now I think I may have channeled my inner Bo Pelini and said where you at the same game I was? It's kind of hard to pass in these conditions. It's not like you guys threw the ball a bunch either. They completed one pass for a 35 yard td that was completed only 10 yards from the los. lol
I'm not much of a Bo fan but I thought that answer he had for the sideline guy at half time vs. Iowa was priceless.

My most miserable experience was actually for heat reasons. My first college game, the temperature was around 110 without humidity factored in! As a coach, Week 9 of the 2009 season was pretty bad. It wasn't that cold--40-45 degrees, I think?--but it was pouring down rain and it had been warm before that, so the dip to the low 40s felt pretty cold. The fact we were a 2-6 team playin outt the string and lost 49-0 that night probably played a factor is the misery as well!

This was an October snow storm..11", no power and out of school until the next Thursday. The campus still talks about the game. The leaves were still on the trees and when the branches broke, it wiped out the power in 90% of the state. Attachment Deleted

mid october game in 2007, snow storm, field plowed before game and at the half. Sustained winds 25+ mph, snowing sideways. I could not see the other sideline. At end of 4th we are down 6 driving with no TO left, RB is tackled on our sideline and I am yelling to the side judge...."stop the clock, he is out of bounds". The field is covered in snow, they are trying to shovel the lines off but to no avail. You cant see 1 line on the field. The side judge looks at me as says "REALLY coach....how can ya tell?" as he is stopping the clock! 1st and goal at the 2, soph QB fumbles the snap and we lose. QB comes to sideline and i ask him what happened, kids says, "I can't feel my hands.......or the ball!"

6 Inches standing water in spots on the field...players didn't mind the rain/sleet or the 35-45mph winds...they were afraid if they got tackled in the middle third of the field that they might drown. Temp was between 34 dropping to 22 by the end of the game.... and 5 minutes after the game wind stopped, rain stopped and temp jumped back up to 40.
